Staff Culture Writer

This is a 6 month contract role with one of our Global Technology Company clients. The role is office based in London, and pays £19/hrs + (depending on experience).

They are looking for a culture writer with a strong arts and culture background and experience writing about the culture sector for digital publications. The successful candidate will have a keen interest in museums and cultural institutions and know which galleries and exhibits are currently showing. They’ll also know their Manets from Monets, and excel at making art, history and culture stories enjoyable and easily understandable by those who aren’t experts or academics. An expert in curating clickable headlines and images, this person will have proven experience writing engaging copy and have a clear understanding of what makes stories share on social media.

Responsibilities:
- Writing regular culture features – many of which will be about museums and cultural institutions, current exhibitions, etc
- There will be some image research required, as well as some time spent out in the field (er, museums) working on stories
- Work closely with the Editor on keeping our editorial calendar up-to-date, making sure we don’t miss key cultural moments
- Write occasional features that are connected to launches

Requirements:
- A couple of years experience writing about arts and culture for online publications (Time Out, BBC Culture, etc)
- Equally comfortable writing 1000 word features that require multiple interviews and research as they are turning out a quick 300 word stories in an hour
- Self-starter, used to writing for tight deadlines
- Extremely organised and works well in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent time management skills and ability to forward-plan
