Sr. Visual/User Interface Designer

Our large financial services client located in Owings Mills, MD is looking for a Visual User Interface Designer for a long term contract position.

The Visual User Interface designer (VUID) leverages user-centered principles and engaging visual design to create elegant and intuitive solutions. From brainstorming through implementation, the VUID inspires users with clear user interfaces and interactions while maintaining visual consistency and brand identity. They will partner with senior UX team members to define the visual aesthetic, flesh out the functionality of all interaction elements and build delight. The VUID will work as a part of a multidisciplinary UX team in a fast-paced and collaborative environment.

• Solve visual and interaction design problems by applying user-centered methods to overcome business, technology, and device constraints.

• Creates comps to effectively communicate and validate ideas. Produce artifacts and documentation such as sitemaps, red routes and design specifications documents (with supporting annotations) to ensure high quality development

• Translate wireframes, prototypes and requirements and deliver high quality cohesive visual designs from concept to final hand-off.

• Responsibilities include: UI element interactions, transitions and animation; definition and maintenance of design patterns and digital brand visual guidelines; responsive adaptation and implementation with developers.

• Act as “go to” with in-depth knowledge of user interface best practices processes and standards.



• BA or BS degree in HCI (Human Computer-Interaction), graphic design, or equivalent professional experience.

• 1-3 years experience working as a web designer with emphasis on UI design

• Experience in print design

• Experience using web analytics and research to drive design decisions

• Professional client-relationship management skills

• Experience in an Agile product development process


• College degree and 2 years of related work experience, or

• 4 year College degree (Design with emphasis in digital media preferred)

• 2-4 years of experience designing innovative and compelling digital experiences.

• Outstanding visual design skills with a mastery of fundamental design disciplines such as typography, hierarchy and color

• Mastery of effective interaction design elements (gestures, transitions and micro interactions)

• Ability to create relevant documentation (comps) and associated artifacts

• Highly competent in understanding visual design systems and information design

• Knowledge of responsive design

• Demonstrable fluency with relevant design software (Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, etc.) and prototyping tools (Axure, Dreamweaver, Balsamiq, Illustrator, etc.)

• While no HTML or CSS production is required for this position, an understanding and knowledge of underlying technical concepts and front-end development for web is necessary (XHTML, JavaScript, CSS, AJAX, etc.)

• Ability to work within project teams in a collaborative, dynamic environment

• Meticulous attention to detail.

• Commitment to client service

• Excellent verbal, written, communication and presentation skills

• Ability to manage/organize multiple tasks at once and deliver high-quality output every time, on time

• A brilliant online portfolio demonstrating your overall creative genius and contemporary acumen for user-centered interface design.
