Sr. User Experience Researcher

Our client is an education based company seeking a skilled specialist in strategies and techniques for researching and strategizing engaging, attractive, intuitive and useful products for learning.
The User Experience Researcher collaborates with Cengage's product managers and software development managers, as well as a variety of stakeholders, to research and design a new generation of online products that exceed expectations in engagement and in learning.

Primary Responsibilities
• Conduct, moderate, and oversee user research across various projects — both qualitative and quantitative — using data collected from primary and secondary sources.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary team to define research goals and ensure quality research insights that can inform best-in-class designs.
• Analyze research data and synthesize into actionable briefs/ insights Drive end user research and concept development including contextual inquiries, persona and scenario development, and ideation sessions.
• Influence product managers and software development managers to use research findings and other sources to develop, refine, and prioritize product requirements.
• Assess product needs and direct resources efficiently, while building a sense of teamwork.
• Advocate for the end user in design and development, while working with product managers, business analysts, UI designers, and Agile developers.
• Know how and when to leverage research and testing to inform design decisions. Collaborate on mockups, wire frames, and clickable prototypes for rapid, iterative testing and design improvement. Continue testing during development.
• Provide leadership in combining user goals and business goals to create an exceptional user experience.
Skills/Knowledge/Experience
• 5+ years as a key member of a user-experience design team participating in the complete product development lifecycle of successfully launched digital products or applications.
• Knowledge and experience in ethnographic user research (contextual inquiry preferred), usability, and UX design methods with a focus on human-computer interaction for digital products. Learning-related products are a plus.
• Experience working with end-users, customers, product management, and developers. Communicate very well verbally and enjoy conversing with people.
• Ability to guide a multifunctional team and to adapt to changes in business, product, organization, or individual needs.
• Clear understanding of usability and web standards
• Degree in Interaction Design, Graphic Design, HCI, Psychology, or equivalent discipline (or document equivalent academic plus professional experience)
Ability to work with a variety of the following methods:
• Remote user testing (e.g. phone or video interviews with remote participants)
• Qualitative field research (e.g. ethnography, contextual enquiry, workplace interviews)
• Survey research (e.g. question phrasing, survey coding)
• Experimental research methods (e.g. experimental design, A/B tests, benchmarking)
• Longitudinal research (e.g. diary studies)
• Usability testing (e.g. lab studies, RITE studies) javascript:runActionProc('submit:save_post')
• Literature review
• Task analysis
• Guerilla user testing (e.g. intercepts on the street, cafe studies)
• Benchmarking (evaluating competitors using qualitative and quantitative data)
• Experience using any of the following would be useful: video editing tools, Usertesting.com, Inspectlet, Userzoom, data visualization software

Strong portfolio of work demonstrating the following:
• Ethnographic research experience and skill
• Ability to turn data into knowledge
• Experience communicating in multifunctional team projects
• Examples of design direction, creative process, research strategy, or equivalent user-experience accomplishment
