Sr. PR and Communications Leader

Our client is looking for a Senior PR and Communications Leader who will be focusing on the strategic development of higher education thought leadership and brand positioning for the university as well as helping with their PR management and execution.

This position is a hybrid between integrated communication strategist and PR. The ideal candidate will be someone with higher education experience.

This role will utilize effective public relations practices as well as internal and external communications to assist with the advancement of the university's brand and position as a unique model for higher education. Working closely with senior leadership team, the marketing and communications team, and external agencies and contractors, this communication leader will proactively develop and execute messaging strategies for uses including but not limited to public and media relations, thought leadership, reputation management, and generation of prospective students. Ideal candidates must be able to provide strategic vision while executing tasks and responsibilities as needed in furtherance of the University and department goals. This position reports to the Associate Director of Student Engagement and is a 3-month contract-to-hire, full-time, position.

Key responsibilities include:

Developing and maintaining a strategic messaging platform for the university as it relates to education innovation, career-focused industry alignment, current topics and trends, and its service to stakeholders
Overseeing public and media relations through external PR agencies focused on earned media placements, thought leadership outreach opportunities, crisis communications, and reputation management
Identify opportunities for inclusion and contributions by University as an industry thought leader within external publications and websites. Includes drafting and distributing customized press releases and media pitches for local publications, op-eds, HARO requests, influencer blogs, and other engagement opportunities as needed
Assisting in the integration of messaging positions, value propositions, and differentiators across owned, earned, and paid mediums

Skills Needed:

Experience managing teams including full and part-time staff, contractors, and agencies
In-depth knowledge of audience-driven writing styles and best practices for PR, internal communication, external communication, advertising, etc.
Superior writing and editing ability
Ability to work effectively alone and in teams to meet organizational objectives
Analytical approach to problem-solving and strategic planning
Proven ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced and highly dynamic environment
Self-starter able to contribute through a value-added mindset
Ability to efficiently work remote
