Sr. Mgr., Interaction Design & Usability

The Senior Manager of Interaction Design and Usability is a key member of the User Experience leadership team responsible for both the interaction design and usability functional areas. This individual provides leadership and direction to the team, as well as collaborates effectively with peers across the organization. They act as a key strategic partner for the Product Managers and help them identify the best solution for creatively solving complex business problems.

Their team is responsible for effectively creating user experiences across our web, mobile and other emerging media channels that address business objectives, customer and user needs. They must also identify the most effective approach for testing design concepts in our on-site testing facility. This candidate is responsible for establishing guidelines to ensure that our user experiences are consistent, usable and compelling. They must be able to successfully interact with all levels of the organization, manage multiple concurrent projects, and oversee budget, resources and relationships.

Responsibilities:
•Lead, mentor and direct the interaction design and usability teams
•Define and refine client's interaction design strategy based on brand attributes, business objectives and user needs
•Define KPIs for measuring the effectiveness of design concepts
•Create accurate work estimates
•Assign projects to team members and allocate resources effectively
•Socialize team’s activities and progress
•Drive user experience innovation and optimization
•Collaborate with business, creative and development teams to identify opportunities for user experience advancement, growth and efficiency
•Work directly with customers / consumers to test solutions
•Manage external user experience vendors
•Hire, develop and retain talented team members while inspiring them to high performance and outstanding results
•Develop usability budget and manage expenditures
•Define and refine framework, guidelines and procedures for site standards
•Ensure all deliverables adhere to standards for quality and performance, as measured in terms of usability, consistency, and business metrics
•Provide leadership and direction across multiple experiences and distribution channels including web, social and mobile
•Review competitor sites and establish user experience benchmarks
•Adapt guidelines to conform to best practices

Qualifications:
• 8+ years experience in User Experience or for an online or digital media company
• 8+ years experience creating wireframes, page flows, and concept models
• Minimum of three years management experience
• Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to motivate and influence executives, business leaders, and technology leaders
• Deep understanding of interaction design and usability
• Previous experience coordinating priorities and meeting deadlines
• Demonstrated ability to establish a clear vision and obtain buy-in support from the organization
• Ability to think strategically and make decisions based on data
• Customer-focused self-starter with high levels of initiative, flexibility and organization
• Effective manager of people with strong team-building and personal development skills
• Comfortable managing multiple complex projects, people and resources in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented, dynamic environment
• Ability to translate business questions and needs into user experience requirements
• Capacity to succeed under pressure
• Innovative problem solving skills
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required; Masters degree preferred
