Sr. Media Relations Lead, Military Healthcare

Contracting position supporting the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs in a dual role. Acts as contracted Senior Media Relations Lead, overseeing all media relations activities within Health Affairs, and acting as lead for the Military Health System Strategic Communications team, comprised of eight individuals.

MUST have a current Public Trust clearance and be able to work on client site at DHHQ in Falls Church.

Sr. Media Relations Lead, Military Healthcare

Immediate need for a Senior Media Relations lead in support of government clients in Falls Church, VA. This position supports the Military Health System (MHS) Strategic Communications Office in the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs (HA).

The Media Relations Specialist should have 10+ years of media relations/public affairs experience, familiarity with the Defense Department procedures and processes and substantial knowledge of the military healthcare system and Public Affairs Guidelines. Experience working in crisis communications is a bonus.

This individual will be required to work on client site at the Defense Health Headquarters in Falls Church, VA and therefore must currently possess a Public Trust clearance.

Required Skills/Experience:

- Supporting Public Affairs Officers and managing a Media Relations Specialist, the Sr. Media Relations Lead will support, under general guidance and direction, plan, develop and coordinate internal and external communications and media projects, programs, events, outreach and dissemination activities and media relations.
- S/he will work with Subject Matter Experts to research and write talking points, news releases and media advisories relating to military healthcare for various mediums, including online and print newsletters, journals, and magazines.
- The specialist will also staff and prepare SMEs for media interviews and work closely with Pentagon Public Affairs staff in addressing media queries relating to military health.
- S/he keeps abreast of healthcare policy and relevant news stories and trends.
- S/he will works with SMEs, leadership and committees to develop media plans, distribution, and implementation strategies and to identify appropriate vehicles for reaching target audiences.
- BS/BA degree required.
- Current Public Trust clearance is required.
- Current, working knowledge of Defense Department public affairs policies and practices is required.
- Job location is at the Defense Health Headquarters in Falls Church, VA.
- The ideal candidate will have 10+ years of professional experience in developing public relations and media campaigns, with crisis communications experience a significant plus.
