Sr Materials Developer

Our client is a sportswear company located in Beaverton who has an immediate need for a Sr. Materials Developer. Please see the job description below:

Essential Functions/ Major Responsibilities:

Own the raw materials development/commercialization process for a product category

and with Design and Sourcing Teams, determine seasonal needs, identify

regions/suppliers based on established Source Plan while utilizing working knowledge of

suppliers’ abilities/limitations and strengths/weaknesses to ensure high standards of

performance can be met in development as well as reproduced in bulk.

Collaborate with Global Liaison Offices in regards to supplier placement, specific

performance, aesthetic and testing needs as well as offer technical guidance during the

development process and bulk.

Interface with Costing Department to ensure costs are analyzed and intelligently

negotiated to best possible price based on current market conditions.

Partner with Materials Quality team to perform risk assessment on relative materials and

with Liaison Offices to develop action plans to ensure best in class quality.

Work with in-house testing lab to conduct technical research in relation to materials

performance improvements.

Perform other related duties and special projects as assigned.

Specific Job Skills:

Must have comprehensive knowledge of textiles, familiarity with textile construction

methods and manufacturing, materials testing and appropriate interpretation of lab

results as they pertain to products. Possess working knowledge of materials and

functional aspects of garments. Ability to work under pressure and to meet strict

timelines, manage multiple tasks simultaneously and work extended hours if necessary.

Possess strong written and verbal communication skills to deal with various levels of

management and employees within the organization as well as vendors and global

personnel. Ability to motivate individuals involved in the development process.

Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.

Education and/or Experience:

Requires a Bachelor’s degree in textiles, apparel manufacturing and/or seven years or

more experience in materials development/materials laboratory, sourcing or related field.
