Sr. Manager, Visual Design

The Senior Manager, Visual Design is a key member of the User Experience leadership team responsible for overseeing the creation of design solutions and standards that support user and business objectives. The ideal candidate is well versed in providing creative direction, resource management and team leadership. They are also adept working collaboratively with business partners and peers across the organization. They act as a key strategic partner for Product Managers and help them identify the best solution for creatively solving complex business problems.

Their team is responsible for effectively designing the look and feel across our web, mobile and other emerging media channels that address business objectives, customer and user needs. This candidate is responsible for establishing guidelines to ensure that our user experiences are consistent, usable and compelling. They must be able to successfully interact with all levels of the organization, manage multiple concurrent projects, and oversee budget, resources and relationships.

Responsibilities
• Lead, mentor and direct the visual design team
• Oversee and develop creative design solutions (from concept to completion) in a wide range of graphic applications
• Implement and adhere to brand standards, as well as act as “brand advocate”
• Define and refine the evolution of client's look and feel based on brand attributes, business objectives and user needs
• Partner effectively with internal clients on creative direction and execution, including coordinating requirements, fulfilling requests, reviewing output and iterating materials through final draft
• Manage and track time and resources for projects, and ensure the visual design project pipeline is managed and prioritized appropriately
• Define KPIs for measuring the effectiveness of design concepts
• Create accurate work estimates
• Assign projects to team members and allocate resources effectively
• Socialize team’s activities and progress
• Drive user experience innovation and optimization
• Collaborate with business, creative and development teams to identify opportunities for user experience advancement, growth and efficiency
• Manage external user experience vendors
• Hire, develop and retain talented team members while inspiring them to high performance and outstanding results
• Define and refine framework, guidelines and procedures for visual site standards
• Ensure all deliverables adhere to standards for quality and performance, as measured in terms of usability, consistency, and business metrics
• Provide leadership and direction across multiple experiences and distribution channels including web, social and mobile
• Adapt guidelines to conform to best practices

Minimum Qualifications
• 8+ years experience in User Experience or for an online or digital media company
• 8+ years experience designing user interfaces for web, tablet and mobile product experiences
• Minimum of three years management experience; demonstrated ability to effectively lead and manage a team of designers
• Typography, creativity, strong attention to detail, deadline-oriented, client service attitude, required
• Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to motivate and influence executives, business leaders, and technology leaders
• Deep understanding of visual design, typography and branding
• Previous experience coordinating priorities and meeting deadlines
• Demonstrated ability to establish a clear vision and obtain buy-in support from the organization
• Ability to think strategically and make decisions based on data
• Demonstrated success designing exceptional brand experiences from concept to completion
• Customer-focused self-starter with high levels of initiative, flexibility and organization
• Effective manager of people with strong team-building and personal development skills
• Proven ability to lead, motivate and influence team members and business counterparts
• Comfortable managing multiple complex projects, people and resources in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented, dynamic environment
• Ability to translate business questions and needs into user experience requirements
• Must be highly proficient with current versions of Adobe Creative Suite and familiar with a wide range of other design, web and multimedia software and applications (e.g., InDesign / Photoshop / Illustrator)
• Capacity to succeed under pressure

• Attention to detail and follow through
• Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Visual Design, Computer Graphics, Digital Media Design or other visual arts or equivalent work experience is required; Masters degree preferred
