Primary Job Responsibilities:

The Senior Manager of Strategy & Planning is both internally- and externally-focused on developing & presenting strategic marketing solutions, including planning and ideation efforts, for both existing and potential clients.

This person has a consumer-first mindset and is widely knowledgeable on a wide array of online and offline experiences, technologies and trends. It is expected that this person will continually enrich and leverage this knowledge to offer appropriate strategic guidance and marketing solutions to account teams and their client constituents.

Primary responsibilities include serving as the strategic and planning lead for client services/account teams, communicating and advocating effectively to clients and prospective clients, managing other members of the Strategy teams on project work, and discovering/introducing emerging platforms, technologies and opportunities that help brands engage consumers to the fullest possible extent.

This person will lead a variety of strategic projects which may include competitive reviews, opportunity assessments, target analyses, cross-channel audits, customer journeys, contact strategies and other CRM programs, business requirement definition, marketing plan development, eCommerce roadmaps and more. Projects will typically span multiple marketing channels, e.g. website, email, display, etc.

This person works closely with the Director of Engagement Strategy and the rest of the Strategy & Planning team, as well as the Global Head of Creative and various Client Service (account) directors.


-Lead development of strategies for a variety of accounts ranging in size and vertical affiliation. Structure and frame deliverables and presentations, create and deliver strategic recommendations, and ensure all deliverables required from the group, internally and externally, are met in an efficient and timely manner. Identify opportunities to constantly improve the quality of thinking applied to client business.

-Support new business activity related to the Commerce Strategy practice (proposing and designing strategic projects for a variety of eCommerce clients).

-Collaborate with clients to give them deeper insights into the dynamics of their business through the development of disciplined and thorough sales, marketing, and consumer analyses.

-Leverage existing tools and resources to foster consistency over time and across projects.

-Partner with creative and account management peers to develop disruptive ideas at all points of customer contact. This includes identifying customer, cultural and competitive insights and writing creative briefs.

-Support an integrated group of marketing channel managers (email, DM, affiliate, display, etc.) in the delivery of requirements to support the growth and development of all client business.

-Ensure strong collaborative relationship within the groups and externally with key agency and client partners to consistently elevate the quality of thinking and ideas applied to the client business.

-Actively grow abilities and skills through formal training programs, mentorship and hands-on learning.

-Ensure all policy and legal requirements for the team are completed in a timely and efficient manner.

-Engage the office culture, promoting interactive knowledge and creativity.

Job Requirements

-Minimally 10-15 years of overall experience, with a minimum of 5 years experience in digital marketing / digital strategy. Preferably has consulting experience – either management consulting or marketing consulting. Must have experience not only developing strategies, but also implementing them.

-Must have experience advising eCommerce clients, preferably within the Internet Retailer 500.

-Experience working at a digital agency or in a senior digital marketing strategy role at a company. - Preferably has traditional planning experience, e.g. identifying customer, cultural and competitive insights and writing creative briefs
-Experience pitching for new business
-Experience with technical facets of eCommerce, e.g. software platforms and business operations
-Strong business acumen and comfort performing strategic analyses – both quantitative and qualitative. Able to manage a budget.
-Experienced people manager. Must have experience supervising and coaching direct reports and partnering with cross-functional teams to develop disruptive ideas that lead to business results.
-Strong writer, communicator and relationship-builder. Includes negotiation & executive interaction skills. Is able to present needs and plans and communicate internally; has a distinct, personable voice for external engagement. Can manage negative situations toward positive outcomes.
-Entrepreneurial-minded, positive problem solver. Excited to create structure in ambiguous situations and think creatively to define outcomes.
-Project management and organizational skills: ability to manage multiple clients/projects and teams of people at once, attention to detail.

***Must be willing to travel.***

 Bachelors Degree or Equivalent. MBA preferred.
