Sr Global Packaging Development Manager (contract)

We are on the lookout for a Sr Global Packaging Development Manager. This is a 6 month contract opportunity with benefits at Fortune 500 Pharma in Northern, NJ!

RESPONSIBILITIES:
-Manage 2-3 package development projects to include definition, specification and qualification of the primary package (e.g., bottle, tube, pouch ,etc) , secondary package (e.g., shelf carton and leaflets) as appropriate  and shipping containers.
-Is member of a brand or category team
-Works effectively with the cross functional project team from Marketing, R&D & manufacturing .
-Performs day to day packaging related activities and supervised external testing of packages
 
Major Accountabilities:
• Provides Packaging Development support to  the category team and the assigned individual brand project team
• Ensure new packaging and device projects are delivered on time, on budget and that project stage gates and success criteria are met.
• To maintain awareness of competitor packaging activities in the region and execute benchmarking studies, as appropriate..
• First point of contact for all technical queries and responsible for the development of all new packaging materials of the assigned categories/brands.
• Effectively use the Novartis stage gate process system for Innovation projects
• Participate in consumer research and translate consumer insights into packaging designs  as appropriate
• Liaise with packaging suppliers and TPOs in order to support innovation / cost saving / compliance / business continuity projects.
• Liaise early on with Manufacturing, Logistics, R&D, QA and Procurement to ensure smooth and robust product launches
• Support quality /compliance activities as   Complaint investigations, deviations and change management
• Ensure FDA, GMP, HSE compliance in all functional activities
• To be aware of the environmental impact of packaging initiatives and work to minimize them.

SKILLS:
• Technical Mastery in most packaging materials (glass, plastic, paper and metal) and print technologies is required.
• Specific knowledge of packaging testing, specification management and Packaging Regulations (EU+FDA standards + Legislation) is required.
• Knowledge of blister technology, rigid plastics, CRC testing is desired.
• Good Knowledge of appropriate qualification procedures and specification writing.
• Knowledge of the relationship of product, process, packaging equipment and packaging material
• Experience in consumer understanding and market research is desired
• Computer Skills: MS Office, SAP, Trackwise, Cape Pack
• Min 6 years Packaging development experience in a multi-national environment. (Pharmaceutical/FMCG)
• Must have good communication skills
