Sr. Art Director Role

The Sr. Art Director will work as part of the digital creative team to develop this networks digital marketing and promotional initiatives in a manner that is consistent with network and department strategies and objectives. The Sr. Art Director is responsible for the management and execution of design and production of visual elements for various platforms including .com, social media outlets, mobile, tablet, interactive television, digital advertising and other department initiatives that help position network as a leader in entertainment. Emphasis is placed on extending network’s tone and manner into new distribution platforms through the innovative application of emerging and evolving technologies.

The Sr. Art Director will work with the Creative Director, Marketing, Editorial, and Development teams to design and produce visual experiences to support network’s Digital Services’ online, mobile, social and interactive television initiatives. He/she will be responsible for:
-Brainstorming and sharing ideas with the group in terms of practical user experience and design. He/she should feel comfortable coordinating with developers and editorial personnel to ensure technical feasibility of final products (10%)
-Designing detailed wireframes outlining user flows/requirements, and presenting these to the group in a way that is easy to understand (40%)
-Designing beautiful digital experiences as mapped out by wireframes (40%)
-Spec-ing/delivering files to the Development team (5%)
-Staying abreast of new production tools and technologies on an ongoing basis (5%)

DECISION MAKING/ACCOUNTABILITY:
The Sr. Art Director reports to the Creative Director but must have the ability to think and act independently and will be expected to represent department interests at internal and external meetings when necessary. The Sr. Art Director has no direct budget responsibilities beyond the responsible use of department resources.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Must have proven digital design and user experience skills and be up-to-date in the latest tools and technologies appropriate for the development of all forms of digital media, including Photoshop, Illustrator, and a general understanding of HTML5/coding best practices. Experience in video and motion graphics is considered a big plus. This position will require the following qualities:
· Proven strong visual design skills (solid knowledge in layout, typography and storytelling)
· Proven strong UX design skills (site maps, user flows, use cases, wireframes, prototypes)
· Must have the ability to aggregate and synthesize feedback from multiple sources and translate that into meaningful iterations of work that move creative forward to meeting project objectives.
· Ability to develop and work with existing and new concepts is essential.
· Be efficient, fast, accurate, organized and articulate in their communication
· Have the ability to manage others while handling his/her own projects
· Inspire and share cutting edge knowledge and ideas with others
· Must stay abreast of the latest trends in the digital marketing landscape with an emphasis on mobile and tablet platforms. He or she must be able to apply that understanding to their work and be proactive with generating new and innovative ways to market our programming and brand through digital.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
8 plus years in digital advertising and/or digital marketing with design management/director experience. Must have college degree in graphic design. Strong digital design portfolio also a must.

DESCRIBE THE MOST DIFFICULT OR COMPLEX ASPECT OF THIS POSITION:
The Sr. Art Director’s key challenge is to create and oversee the creation by the design staff of original and compelling materials despite the volume of work, proliferation of opinions, variety and complexity of the projects, an extensive and complex approval process and time constraints. The Sr. Art Director must successfully navigate these impediments often within tight scheduling and/or budgetary restraints.

The Sr. Art Director needs to balance meeting client expectations while supporting and contributing to the creative integrity of the department and the company. It is expected that the Sr. Art Director will be able to lead while working harmoniously with a team, developing a wide range of solutions and offering fresh creative options.

The Sr. Art Director must lead by example and set the tone for other designers to follow. He or she must be strategic and creative, organized, assertive yet flexible, calm, reasonable, proactive, fair, discreet, personable and be able to balance his or her various roles appropriately in a fast pace environment.
