Sr. Agency Business Development Manager

Fantastic opportunity for an experienced Sr. Agency Business Development Manager to join a growing agency in Portland. Do you have a minimum of 10 years experience in an agency setting as well as a strong background in driving and managing revenue driven account teams? The purpose of the Sr. Agency Business Development Manager is to mentor and grow existing and new Account Executives and Account Managers as well as actively pursue and procure profitable business for the company from existing clients through a consultative approach.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Ownership of the revenue line for the agency
Understands clients’ business, industry and needs at the highest level
Brings forth business ideas, marketing insights and solutions for clients
Actively listens, proactively plans, conceptualizes and understands research to drive and achieve results
Provides strong agency points of view on what agency believes will best enable our clients to succeed
Works with clients to set goals for individual programs for the year
Creates professional client partnerships, built on trust, respect and agency's Core Values
Drives process through the agency to improve client value creation and company performance
Moves client relationships from tactics to programs, programs to major lines of agency business
Interacts with clients on a social level as required to strengthen client relationship

Account Management:

  • Creates annual business unit account plans including budgeting and resource planning needed to support assigned account
  • Updates account plans quarterly, and provides corrective actions when not meeting plan
  • Prepares and presents results and insights that are tied to objectives at the end of programs or campaigns
  • Oversees and participates in quarterly business reviews that summarize and showcase past successes, key metrics and learnings, plus recommended future programs
  • Leads the team’s proposals, presentations, creative briefs and agency documents that are clear, concise and effective
  • Responsible and accountable for all account activity within assigned accounts
  • Proactively solves problems at all levels, utilizing various leadership and negotiation skills, offering solutions for the benefit of the client and agency
  • Develops, monitors, and directs account staff in the performance of their responsibilities
  • Partners with internal teams to ensure all agency work exceeds clients’ business objectives and brand guidelines
  • Maintains a professional image, attitude and appearance with clients and within the agency

  • Business Growth and Development:
  • Develops and manages growth plan for assigned accounts
  • Leverages existing relationships into new opportunities
  • Ensures kickoff presentation response, determines budget and tracks proposal cost
  • Updates CRM and tracks activity
  • Maintains an up-to-date understanding of agency's overall portfolio to represent our work with knowledge of its objectives and results

  • Agency Management:
  • Fiscally responsible for assigned accounts overseeing SOW’s, PO’s, change orders and billing
  • Evaluates account profitability and participates in internal and client facing post mortem discussions to optimize future programs
  • Understands and manages to all agency's policies and procedures, consistently adheres to agency's administrative responsibilities including expense reports, performance evaluations, forecasting and accounts receivables.
  • Solidly understands agency's processes such as project initiation, budgeting, project workflow and open jobs and estimates

  • Job Requirements and Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 10+ years agency experience including leadership and development of accounts
  • Staff and account management skills with proven ability to successfully manage accounts of $1M or higher

  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Ability to travel – up to 25% of time
  • Strong interpersonal, written communication and persuasive skills; comfortable and effective working with senior-level executives
  • High-level computer and software skills
  • Self-motivated, able to learn quickly, personable and well organized
  • Critical thinking skills
  • Ability to understand technology
  • An understanding of general business concepts
  • Team player and able to work effectively with all agency resources
  • Supports and promotes company culture, mission and Core Values
  • Late night and/or weekend hours are occasionally necessary to manage clients and projects
  • Flexibility to perform in an ever-changing work environment
