Social Media Strategist

Our client in Evanston (Metra and Purple Line Accessible) is looking for a Social Media Strategist to join their team! This is a contract-to-hire role that offers full benefits.

The Social Media Strategist is responsible for developing and implementing social media strategies and marketing plans. He/she oversees social media activities, monitors and evaluates our online presence, and advises leadership on the effective use of social media for various business objectives. This role is responsible for social media governance across the organization, including developing and enforcing policies, introducing and refining processes, and evaluating tools and software. The Social Media Strategist works with marketing and communication directors to incorporate social media into their broader plans. He/she works with community managers and content producers to help guide content creation and versioning, develop influencer strategies, and formulate test plans to optimize performance. Reports to Director of Content Strategy.


Specific Responsibilities:
• Develops social media strategy and work with various stakeholders to develop plans that meet their business objectives.
• Plans may include such activities as channel selection, influencer and engagement strategies, follower acquisition and guidance on content development.
• Formulates test plans to optimize performance in various channels.
• Prepares reports to update Marketing Managers, Business Stakeholders and Senior Leaders on efficacy and impact.
• Analyzes content and translate anecdotal or qualitative data into recommendations and plans for revising social media content.
• Monitors competitors and best practice companies to keep apprised of developments.
• Establishes and enforces social media policies, trains members of the community on best practices, evaluates tools and software to effectively manage content and measure performance.
• Supervises Community Managers, whose duties include managing updates, issuing weekly performance reports, gathering content for real-time event coverage.

Minimum Qualifications:
• Six or more years' experience in digital marketing, ideally in an integrated marketing environment that required balancing earned and paid strategies to achieve communications objectives.
• Experience managing 1,000+ member online communities.
• Established footprint and proven ability to manage continuous professional presence in social media.
• Strategic thinker who not only can develop and manage strategies for multiple stakeholders but also integrate multiple social handles into a cohesive strategy for the organization.
• Experience leveraging social channels for thought leadership.
• Adept at managing direct and indirect reports.
• Excellent communicator with editorial skills. Practiced at writing for web and social channels.
• Proficiency working with popular social media platforms and tools.
• Analytical skills to measure social media impact and determine actionable insights.
• Track record of implementing governance across a large, complex organization.
• Highly organized, detail-oriented and enthusiastic.
• A bachelor's degree in English, journalism, communications or comparable field or the equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired.
