Our client, a publishing company, is seeking a Social Media Specialist for a contract-to-hire opportunity onsite in DTLA. The Social Media Specialist collaborates with and assists the Manager of Community and Social Media in driving page views, engagement and loyalty. The Social Media Specialist should display expert knowledge of user-generated content, comments and sweepstakes and be experienced with community management, loyalty programs, polling and quizzing.

The Social Media Specialist will independently concept and execute engagement-driving, high-page-view programs on behalf of the company, marketing and advertisers. Additionally, he or she is responsible for daily curation and web production tasks of community interaction features, as well as analytics on these tools. The Social Media Specialist should be independent, self-starting and thorough, with great attention to detail and ability to juggle multiple projects.

The Responsibilities:
• Promotes products and content using community initiatives, such as UGC, contests, sweepstakes, polls and chats
• Masterfully manipulates page views per visitor through targeted engagement programs
• Runs user-generated content program, including promotion, moderation and analytics
• Manages all aspects of sweepstakes, including strategy, calendar, sales/advertiser relationships, scheduling, promotion and logistics
• Works closely with editorial to quickly incorporate appropriate community features, especially UGC, polls and quizzes, into the site
• Knows all engagement tools and vendors expertly; trains users company-wide in these tools and techniques
• Researches and champions best practices for calls-to-action and driving reader participation
• Crafts campaigns to increase and reward commenting, site participation, community interaction, registration and subscription and drive engaged readers to the company site
• Engages with 3rd party influencers for trade, partnerships and promotions
• Daily web production tasks to update and curate several community landing pages in our proprietary CMS and 3rd party CMS’s from vendors
• Analyzes results of campaigns, and tests and optimizes for greater conversions and reach
• Assists with our comments program, including moderation, analytics and 3rd party vendors
• Organizes polling and quizzing initiatives for the site, including 3rd party vendor relationships, CMS expertise and analytics
• Outsources some development work to third party vendors; Upkeeps day-to-day relationships with third party vendors

The Requirements
• B.S / B.A degree with a strong academic record. Any degrees welcome
• Must have 3-4+ years experience in digital/interactive marketing at an agency or client-side OR in digital journalism, with experience in community management.
• Experience with contests, UGC, commenting and relationships with third-party vendors a plus
• Experience managing forums, communities, or social profiles, including moderation and influencer identification
• Proven track record of launching successful multi-channel (social, online, offline events) and multi-platform (mobile, tablet) viral campaigns across offline, online and social networks
• Strong project management, strategic planning and writing skills
• Able to communicate clearly and present conceptual creative/technical strategies, trends and metrics
• Able to multi-task, collaborate, and work autonomously
• Self-starter who is comfortable setting goals and achieving them
• Experience with web analytics and reporting, Omniture a plus, design high-concept analytics reports, answer questions and optimize behavior based on analytics
• Must know Microsoft Office and some HTML/Photoshop/CSS
• Great attention to detail; able to juggle many small tasks
• Computer savvy, quick-learner and online problem-solver; Can easily figure out new technologies online
• Avidly participates in online communities and social networks
• Has an expert understanding of web technologies and social networking sites
