Social Media Marketing Manager

I have an exciting role working within media for a Social Media Marketing Manager.

This new position is to grow audiences and readership off platform and promote content to build a prospect pool and increase membership as well as launching social on new channels.
Working with marketing and editorial teams and assisting the audience editor you will help create understanding of the audience and manage and maintain communities on and off site.

As a Social Media Marketing Manager you will:
• Work as part of an international team to promote and build global and local communities on existing and new social media channels 

• Be responsible for delivering paid content amplification to build awareness, attract new readers and prospective members 

• Work as part of the audience team to grow communities off platform – using data to identify which audiences to target and using content promotion to engage with these audiences 

• Work with the audience and video teams to promote video content on and off platform – with a specific focus on growing audiences across our social media platforms 

• Deliver expert insight and advice to the wider consumer marketing team and editorial about paid promotion across social and video channels 

• Meet awareness campaign metrics to grow prospect pool for the marketing team to convert to paying members 

• Use Google Analytics to plan and optimise campaigns 

• Deliver insightful campaign reporting and evaluations identifying areas for improvement 

• Budget responsibility for content campaign budget allocation - driving costs down and effectiveness up along with accurate budget management with finance 

• Media management – working with a media agency & internal marketing teams, ensuring all marketing initiatives have relevant, cost effective media plans 

• Develop creative for effective content promotion, and working with studio where required 

• Help to develop a community and social strategy with the audience editor and other teams 

• Monitor key social media metrics, including keeping abreast of competitors' activity, reporting on performance across channels and alerting editorial and marketing teams to trending or successful uses of content across platforms. 

• Help create and monitor metrics to track audience behaviour and engagement on site and on social media platforms, and assisting the Guardian Australia team in acting on the data we collect 


To be considered for this role you will need:
• A successful track record in creating and managing content promotion, including paid promotion, predominantly through social channels
• Experience in video promotion specifically on YouTube and Facebook
• Experience in campaign reporting and evaluation, ideally using Google Analytics 

• Understanding of news and other content online, how it spreads, and how to effect that spread 

• Understanding of news websites' changing relationship with their audience 

• Understanding of online communities and how to develop them 

• Financial management 
and confidence with numbers
• Understanding of media law and experience of working in a busy newsroom preferable, but not required 

• Understanding of new tools and platforms, and the opportunities they offer editorially and commercially 

• Interest in news and politics in Australia and worldwide 

• Creativity and ability to suggest new ways to engage readers 

• Good communication skills, and the ability to get the best out of colleagues 
and to talk to technical and commercial teams as well as editorial teams
