Senior User Researcher

Aquent’s technology client is seeking a Senior User Researcher for a 9+ month onsite contract in San Francisco. Our client is seeking someone who is passionate about human-centered design, and has a proven track record for leading research projects with cross-functional teams. You will join a large, well-supported UX team of seasoned researchers and designers to deliver the next generation of innovative desktop, web, and mobile products that serve over 10 million users worldwide.

Designing, conducting, analyzing, and presenting research, in a fast-paced Agile software development environment, from early strategic direction through post-release validation. Employ a wide range of research methods including strategic design research and contextual inquiry, participatory design workshops, formative and summative usability studies, analytics and UX metrics, and customer advisory councils.

Lead research projects with cross-functional stakeholders including designers, product managers, and engineers, ensuring that all stakeholders participate in the research and experience customer insights. Lead internal design thinking and visioning workshops to translate customer insights into product direction. Track, communicate, and evangelize insights, goals and metrics to project teams and leadership.

Planning and executing research on multiple projects and multiple platforms (desktop, web, mobile) on exciting new features and trends in the world of users, such as streamlined office to field workflows, cloud integration, and lightweight drafting tools for design collaborators.

Leading a variety of research methods including ethnographic-style site visits, remote interviews and usability sessions, analytics analysis, lightweight surveys, and discussions on user forums. Leading research analysis and product visioning workshops with cross-functional teams, to ensure that findings and insights are translated into actionable product goals and direction.

Sharing customer insights with stakeholders in creative ways to increase customer empathy, including posters, internal blog posts, workshops, and compelling presentations.

Coaching and mentoring others including UX designers and product management on user research methods. You will participate in the larger UX community at and evangelize research and design in the public community through events such as Sum of the Parts Speaker Series and Design Nights.

You’re a born researcher with rock-solid execution. You’ve got an inquisitive mind, natural empathy for users, and you love translating fuzzy research questions into a clear research plan and then executing on it in a fast-paced environment. You’re a team player.

Job Requirements
5+ years of experience working in a user-centered design process on complex desktop or web-based software applications

Strong track record of qualitative and quantitative results impacting product strategy and development

Degree in Cognitive or Experimental Psychology, Human Computer Interaction, Human Factors, or related field

Excellent communication and collaboration skills, and the ability to share and evangelize research findings in a clear and compelling way to diverse audiences including executives
