Senior or Principal User Experience Designer

Large Oilfield Services Company is looking for a versatile interaction designer to join the user experience team to help us design and/or enhance one or more desktop and/or web applications. Location is on the north side of Houston, TX.

Responsibilities
• Lead the user experience design effort for one or more products
• Work closely with product management, development, and others to optimize the user experience for our users
• Communicate designs through storyboards, user experience design specifications, and prototypes
• Validate designs using user-centered design best practice methods including usability testing, focus groups, surveys, etc.
• Collaborate with other user experience team members as well as the business, development, and QA teams
• Learn sufficient domain specific material to understand end user issues
• Minimal travel required

Required Qualifications
• Minimum of 3-7 years of experience leading interaction design efforts for desktop and/or web applications in a software company development environment
• Demonstrable experience understanding and designing complex systems
• Experience developing personas, scenarios, and user experience requirements
• Ability to work well with product management and development to validate product requirements and convert them into usable product designs
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills
• A team player who works well in a collaborative environment
• Willingness and ability to quickly learn new tools, technologies, techniques, and domains
• Experience on an Agile development team
• Familiarity with Windows and web application user experience design guidelines
• Proficiency with design tools such as Axure, Balsamiq, Illustrator, and/or PhotoShop

Desired Qualifications
• Visual and graphic design skills
• Experience conducting end-user research through contextual inquiry, interviews, and other techniques
• Experience validating designs using usability testing, interviews, and focus groups

Education
Bachelor’s degree in interaction design, human factors, human computer interaction, usability, graphics design, fine arts, or a related design discipline preferred
