Senior UX/UI Designer

A leading North American Retailer comprised of three of the retail industry’s most iconic brands is seeking a UX/UI Designer. This is a freelance to hire role. You would be working closely with the US Design Manager. This will be 50/50 between visual component and IA/interaction design. They really need a strong visual aesthetic, someone who has worked in e-commerce for larger corporate clients.

Summary
The Senior UX Designer develops on-brand omni-channel design solutions for all digital channels that solve problems dealing with the direct interactions of our users. The Senior UX Designer will support direct path to purchase projects and enhancements by developing solutions that take business needs and requirements and transform them into user-focused interactive experiences for desktop and mobile via wireframes, high fidelity comps, prototypes, and specification documents.

Expected Work
Creative Responsibilities/Objectives - 60% of time
 Assist UX director in developing and communicating on-brand interface style guidelines and standards
 Explore trends and competitive landscape and participate in productive brainstorming sessions that result in concrete ideas for execution

 Collaborate closely with the UX director and interdepartmental teams to create and produce compelling interactive solutions (wireframes, mock-ups, prototypes) that:
 leverage and utilize appropriate interactive functionality
 work across channels
 have high visual impact
 align with all requirements and business objectives
 are delivered with brand compliance
 Cultivate knowledge of user experience best practices and implement solutions based on the unique user needs
 Recommend features, functionality and specific interactions based on analysis of business goals and user needs
 Collaborate with UX Director and internal/external business partners and technical teams to ensure flawless integration with back-end technology and a great user experience
 Incorporate feedback from business partners, end users, technical and design teams
 Navigate online products from 'test' mode to 'live' activation
 Maintain expertise and stay updated in appropriate and latest interactive software (examples include but are not limited to: InVision, Axure, Marvel, Adobe Muse, Dreamweaver, Java/ CSS)
 Have an understanding markup languages like HTML, XHTML, DHTML and XML.

Business Partner Management Responsibilities/Objectives - 20% of time
 Advise business partners on interactive opportunities, functionality requirements, site maps/wireframes, user research/needs and user interface
 Work with the UX director to troubleshoot business partner relationships: gather facts, assess options and determine appropriate resolution to achieve high-level of business partner satisfaction

Process Responsibilities/Objectives - 10% of time
 Prioritize and schedule project tasks to meet deadlines
 Ensure all electronic files are built responsibly (smallest size, proper naming conventions, error free
 Utilize workflow process and technology to ensure quality delivery of work product on an ongoing basis
 Communicate obstacles and improvement opportunities within workflow processes to the UX Director and interdepartmental teams
 Work with the UX Director and interdepartmental teams to trouble shoot project issues and resolve conflicts as required; gather facts

Technology Management Responsibilities/Objectives - 5% of time
 Utilize workflow technologies that support the digital design team (i.e. workflow/project management, digital asset management/DAM, dynamic collateral creation/DCC)
 Provide feedback to the UX Director about changes and enhancements needed to software and technology to reflect current trends and needs

Team Responsibilities/Objectives - 5% of time
 Support corporate culture, values and mission
 Contribute to environment that is efficient, professional, proactive, and team oriented
 Work with the UX Director to define yearly and quarterly personal goals and team objectives
 Work with the UX Director to onboard new design hires/contractors

Skills – use the following categories to detail the skills necessary to be successful in the position.

Knowledge – level of education required, special certifications or licenses
 Bachelor of Fine Arts degree required with emphasis on User Experience, interactive design, graphic design, or relevant visual arts or development degree. Master’s degree a plus

 High-level understanding of technical/functional parameters
 Strong communication, organizational and people skills
 Strong ability to balance and prioritize project workload and adjust to shifting business needs/priorities
 Excellent design sense and ability to articulate design strategy to business partners and design team

Experience – level or related/unrelated work experience, number of years in prior jobs
 5+ years of experience in:
 initiating and creating interactive solutions based on existing strategies, concepts,
 development of wireframes, prototypes and design specification documents for
 communicating with business partners
 experience with user testing and multi-variant testing
 programming/development a plus templates and brand guidelines desktop and mobile experience working in an agile environment a plus

Competencies – technical or other skills such as position specific software, financial skills, leadership, team building, training
 Superior knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud
 Presentation abilities – able to communicate design concepts clearly and effectively
 Understanding of components, cycle times, production and distribution requirements of digital creative deliverables
 Superior knowledge of prototyping tools (including, but not limited to) Axure, Marvel, InVision
 Basic understanding of modern web development languages (including, but not limited to) JQuery and SASS
