Senior UX Researcher

A leading North American Retailer comprised of three of the retail industry’s most iconic brands is seeking a UX Researcher. This is a freelance to hire role. You would be working closely with the US Design Manager. They need a researcher with a UX Design background as well. The talent needs to be versatile and able to create their own wireframes, etc.

The Senior UX Researcher will be responsible for designing, conducting, analyzing, and presenting user-centered design research for all digital channels. In partnership with the larger creative team and our cross departmental partners, the Senior UX Researcher will identify user needs, develop customer personas, and conduct iterative usability testing. He/she is responsible for rapid visual and interactive prototyping, performing simple and complex user experience research and strategy activities, and regularly communicating findings to the larger team.

Expected Work
Creative Responsibilities/Objectives - 60% of time
 Collect, organize and analyze qualitative and quantitative data that directly relates to user experience design
 Collaborate with department, and cross departmental teams to develop a roadmap of key initiatives Quarterly
 Collaborate with department, and cross departmental teams to develop surveys & user test scripts that skillfully solicit feedback from users
 Collaborate closely with the UX director and interdepartmental teams to create and produce compelling interactive prototypes that:
 leverage and utilize appropriate interactive functionality
 work across channels
 align with business objectives
 are delivered with brand compliance
 Cultivate knowledge of user experience best practices and implement solutions based on the unique user needs
 Explore trends and competitive landscape and participate in productive brainstorming sessions that result in concrete ideas for execution
 Ability to make clear experience enhancing recommendations while maintaining brand standards
 Acts as a user research resource on cross-disciplinary project/product teams
 Recommend features, functionality and specific interactions based on analysis of business goals and user needs
 Incorporate feedback from business partners, end users, technical and design teams
 Organize and create regular documentation and meeting cadence(s) to communicate findings
 Maintain expertise and stay updated in appropriate and latest interactive software (including but not limited to: Axure, Marvel, Java/CSS/SASS)

Business Partner Management Responsibilities/Objectives - 20% of time
 Advise business partners on interactive opportunities, AB test opportunities, and user research findings
 Work with the UX director to troubleshoot business partner relationships: gather facts, assess options and determine appropriate resolution to achieve high-level of business partner satisfaction

This list should not include accountabilities requiring more than 15% of time.

Process Responsibilities/Objectives - 10% of time
 Collaborate with UX director to develop workflow processes to ensure quality delivery of work on an ongoing basis
 Communicate obstacles and improvement opportunities within workflow processes to the UX Director and interdepartmental teams

Technology Management Responsibilities/Objectives - 5% of time
 Utilize workflow technologies that support the digital design team (i.e. workflow/project management, digital asset management/DAM, dynamic collateral creation/DCC)
 Provide feedback to the UX Director about changes and enhancements needed to software and technology to reflect current trends and needs

Team Responsibilities/Objectives - 5% of time
 Support corporate culture, values and mission
 Contribute to environment that is efficient, professional, proactive, and team oriented
 Work with the UX Director to define yearly and quarterly personal goals and team objectives
 Work with the UX Director to onboard new design hires/contractors

Knowledge – level of education required, special certifications or licenses
 BA/BS degree required with emphasis on User Experience, Cognitive Science, Multimedia/Graphic Design, Interaction Design, Psychology, Computer Science, or related degree. Master’s degree a plus

Skills – job specific knowledge and abilities, general business acumen, other required skills
 High-level understanding of technical/functional parameters
 Strong communication, organizational and people skills
 Interpret analytics and extract useful insights
 Strong ability to balance and prioritize workload and adjust to shifting business needs/priorities
 Excellent design sense and ability to articulate design strategy to business partners and design team

Experience – level or related/unrelated work experience, number of years in prior jobs
 5+ years of experience in:
 Experience studying user behavior and opinion through user testing, interviews, observation, surveys, and/or A/B testing
 initiating and creating interactive solutions based on existing brand guidelines
 development of wireframes and prototypes for desktop and mobile
 communicating with business partners
 experience working in an agile environment
 experience working in ecommerce a plus

Competencies – technical or other skills such as position specific software, financial skills, leadership, team building, training
 Superior knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud
 Presentation abilities – able to communicate design concepts clearly and effectively
 Understanding of components, cycle times, production and distribution requirements of digital creative deliverables
 Superior knowledge of prototyping tools (including, but not limited to) Axure, Marvel, InVision
 Basic understanding of modern web development languages (including, but not limited to) JQuery and SASS
