Senior UX Designer

Vitamin T is seeking a User Experience Designer Senior: The User Experience Designer Senior applies user-centered design skills and techniques to design user interfaces that help people use internet-based research or library management applications easily and effectively.

What you will be doing:

Works on medium to large projects or enhancements and consistently delivers successful outcomes with little supervision or oversight; may be take lead role on projects with more than one designer.
Applies user-centered design methodology to develop an understanding of and serve as the advocate for the end user; performing user research, creating personas, conducting user task analysis, developing process diagrams, use cases, and more.
Partners with business leads to understand desired business outcomes and validate the value and usability of concepts for enhancements, SOP products, or small projects.
Consults with software and content developers to understand and accommodate technical constraints and reflect appropriate content format and search functionality in the designs.
Creates high and low-fidelity prototypes to support rapid design iteration and user testing.
Develops wireframes, sitemaps and other design renderings which define the user interface form, function, navigation, interaction, and basic screen layout.
Writes brief functional requirements documents, annotated wireframes and/or user stories to convey design elements and interactions to the product development team.
Performs usability analysis on designs to ensure ease-of-use for target user populations.
Works closely with the team implementing the designs to ensure business and user requirements have been met.
Ensures designs meet accessibility standards per ADA Section 508 requirements and W3C WAI guidelines.
Stays current with emerging UI trends, knowledge of interactive landscape (both mobile and web-based), competitors, and complimentary products.
Contributes to knowledge and skills of UX team by developing expertise in one or more UX disciplines (accessibility, user research, analytics) and assumes responsibility for modeling and teaching best practices.



What you will need to be successful:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent training/professional work experience in one of the following areas or a related field: Human-Computer Interaction, Graphic Design, Visual Communications.
5 or more years of industry experience in interface design, web design, information architecture, user research or similar field.
Strong experience applying user centered design, user analysis techniques, and web and mobile/responsive usability best practices.
Fluent with design and diagramming tools such as Axure, Visio, or OmniGraffle.
Experience with development processes, including ability to integrate user centered design practices with an agile development approach.
Strong interpersonal skills, with ability to professionally interact with a diverse blend of personalities to reach resolution and maintain strong relationships.

Ancillary Qualifications:

Advanced degree in HCI or similar field.
Knowledge of accessibility standards and ability to apply best practices in design.
Ability to understand and apply analytics and usage data as part of user research.



Other important information about this position:

This position is based in a Michigan office but may be appropriate for full or partial remote work, subject to approval.
Occasional travel could be required.
This position requires weekday (Monday - Friday) attendance with some scheduling flexibility available around core working hours.
Every position requires certain physical capabilities.
