Position Summary: Fulfill the role of Linux subject matter expert on the team.
Aquent On Demand is searching for an experienced and motivated Systems Engineer to join us in taking its IT Operations to the next level.

Candidates must possess a strong knowledge of all aspects of Linux Operating Systems and have proficiency using tools and utilities to assess, troubleshoot and solve problems as well as recommend, design and implement solutions. Strong candidates will demonstrate their ability to write and modify scripts using a scripting language such as Ruby, Bash, Perl, Python, or other common scripting language.
This position provides the opportunity to telecommute with the option of working out of an Aquent office in multiple cities. The OnDemand group is distributed across multiple locations throughout the US and candidates must be comfortable working as part of a virtual team. As a member of the On Demand Team typical responsibilities include:
Manage and deploy EC2 instances as needed and manage and create new AMIs when required.
Assist with maintaining and ensuring reliable backups across multiple services including EBS, S3, and RDS.
Manage and augment system monitoring, backups, and other server maintenance tasks.
Perform systems and application upgrades and maintain thorough documentation for all servers and configuration histories.
Support a diverse enterprise IT infrastructure with many disparate systems.
Assist team with managing and maintaining 24/7 system infrastructure.
Coordinate with vendors for licensing and services as needed.
Routinely update support tickets to accurately document and track issues.
Assist Disaster Recovery Team on creating, testing, and updating disaster recovery plans.
Technical Skills Required:
Experience working with AWS across multiple services including the use of API’s for service management.
Strong hands-on Linux Administration experience with CentOS or other RHEL based distributions.
A thorough knowledge of Postfix as well as an “end to end” understanding of email in general and how to troubleshoot issues.
Possess strong knowledge and understanding networking protocols (i.e., TCP/IP, DNS, etc), know how to implement them and have the ability to troubleshoot both simple and complex issues primarily with web-based applications.
Possess strong knowledge of systems operations: CPU threading, process ID’s, memory utilization, disk I/O, file system security (Windows and Linux), etc.
Ability to write and modify scripts using a common scripting language (Ruby, Bash, Perl, etc.).
Knowledge and hands on experience implementing Nagios or other common monitoring tools.
Technical Skills Desired:
Microsoft Server administration experience.
Previous hands on experience supporting Tomcat, Apache Webserver, and MySQL.
Standard industry certifications or equivalent experience.
