Senior Store Designer

Our client is a Seattle-based Coffeehouse chain looking for a Senior Store Designer to join their studio in South Florida. This job contributes to the companies success by producing outstanding store designs for a regional market that upholds the Customer Experience meeting cost, schedule and operational requirements by working with a cross functional team. Organizationally savvy: understands and effectively leverages the organization to accomplish business and unit goals. 5-10 years of experience required. 

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

  • Expert level skills at current modeling and documentation software; (AutoCAD, Revit - required, Adobe Creative Suite, SketchUp, InDesign) 
  • Current knowledge of industry trends in retail store and restaurant design 
  • Current working knowledge of building and health codes and compliance issues 
  • Demonstrated 3-D visualization ability and working knowledge of color and design principles 
  • Ability to balance design, with operational needs and budget objectives resulting in exceptional store environments 
  • Ability to execute multiple designs under tight deadlines. Skilled in the visual, written and verbal communication of design issues 
  • Ability to translate stated design principles/objectives into unique and varied store locations 
  • Knowledge of architectural details and specifications for construction document production 


Typical workday:

  • Accountable for all design deliverables for most complex project types 
  • Accountable for design solutions that meet all budgetary requirements 
  • Reviews site survey report (scope assessment) 
  • Manage all documentation required for project execution 
  • Responsible for effective transference of design intent to the studio from leadership on a project level 
  • Validates Revit file from site survey 
  • Manages direct reports as it relates to performance and development 
  • Executes design projects with a high degree of design conceptualization 
  • Responsible for design translation with AOR and suppliers to ensure successful construction/shop drawings 
  • Responsible for design intent validation of proposals for casework, lighting, artwork and custom items 
  • Responsible for budget alignment with Store Development early and often in the process 
  • Responsible for LEED DM documentation 
  • Supports Construction Admin to achieve successful follow through on design intent 
  • Presents design packages to Operations 
  • Establishes design concept for individual projects 
  • Develops and inspires studio designers 
  • Facilitates design discussions and inspiration within the studio 
  • Leads intermediate design charrettes to mentor junior designers and further develop design prior to senior-level review 
  • Key adviser for studio operations and design strategies 
  • Ability to execute design projects with a mastery of design conceptualization and construction expertise 
  • Fundamental project management from inception to completion with little oversight 
  • Ability to negotiate and influence without authority 
  • Ability to develop and inspire peers and junior studio designers and lead by example 
  • Works independently with guidance in only the most complex situations 
  • Solves complex problems and develops new solutions 
  • May have up to four (4) direct reports 
  • Formally manages professional, support staff or technical staff 
  • Directly influences management cross functionally 
  • Provides guidance to leadership on the impacts of policy development 


Additional skills:

  • Retail, hospitality or restaurant design or development organization including management of construction documents: 5 years of experience 
  • Management in a national company: 2 years of experience 
  • Experience managing outside architectural, MEP and other design consultants
