Senior Print Producer / Trafficker

Vitamin T's client, a global marketing production and implementation provider is looking for a Senior Print Producer / Trafficker to freelance for two weeks onsite.

Primary Roles and Responsibilities
• Act as discipline-specific expert and central point of contact. Manage all aspects of the production process (budget, timeframes and quality) from agency brief through project completion. This includes, but is not limited to, briefing the Studio (Graphic Artists and Retouching), routing to Quality Control, Agency Project Manager and/or Direct Clients and selecting and managing external vendors.
• Liaise with other Senior Producers to efficiently manage work across the entire Print Production department; distribute work across individual teams, based on availability, experience and skills, as appropriate.
• Provide fair and effective leadership among individual groups; ensure team members follow procedures as defined in the SOP.
• Establish and maintain effective and trusted working relationships with all internal and agency departments, including Account, Project Management and Studio.
• Obtain estimates (observing the triple-bidding process as appropriate) through a defined RFQ process
• Select and secure vendors based on quality, cost, service and turnaround time; review vendor performance on a project-by-project basis.
• Identify and address potential printing problems as early as possible in the production workflow/supply chain.
• Work closely with vendors and publications to determine specifications and production techniques as well as keep abreast of industry trends: troubleshoot any issues and offer creative solutions.
• Ensure print feasibility across all applications; give guidance on color, varnish techniques, type sizes, etc.
• Manage press checks to ensure a quality product delivered on time and within budget.
• Maintain proper billing procedures.
• Train and provide continuing development initiatives for team members; actively encourage and facilitate cross-discipline training and knowledge sharing across all teams; support Print Production colleagues by adopting team mentality.
• Proactively contribute to the studio quality assurance culture and implement and continuously support process improvements.
• Support the Studio Director in major business initiatives; support, champion and communicate management decisions effectively and with confidence.
• Learn, understand and know the client base; establish and maintain effective working relationships with key clients as appropriate, understanding and anticipating their specific needs and goals.

Candidate Specifications

Education and Qualifications
A recognized and appropriate academic or professional qualification is preferred, or significant relevant experience (minimum 5 years).

A driven and dynamic individual with the ability to focus on the delivery of results in a rapidly changing environment. Someone who is commercially astute, and who has a passion for quality and service and a strong focus on business and client needs.

Background and Experience
• Thorough knowledge, with a probable minimum of five years’ experience, of print production management principles and practices, including sheet-fed, web and digital print production, finishing services, packing, shipping and logistics.
• Sound working knowledge and experience in one or more of the following specialist print disciplines: Strategic Sourcing; Creative Sourcing; Direct Mail; Out of Home/3D Props; Point of Purchase; Run on Press; Brochure/Collateral; Premiums
• Thorough knowledge and experience of major studio operations functions, including retouching, electronic pre-media, traditional services and quality control.
• Proven experience in establishing and maintaining production schedules and budgets for multiple, concurrent, deadline-driven projects through all phases of design, prepress and printing.
• Computer literate with proficiency in all MS office (or equivalent) applications (Word; Excel; PowerPoint; Keynote).
• Working knowledge of pre-media applications, such as InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator a distinct advantage.
