Senior Packaging Design Manager - (6 -12 Month Contract)

We are looking for a Senior Packaging Design Manager (GM) to work for a huge global retail client in Welwyn Garden City. This is a 6 - 12 month contract which could go perm.

Role Objective:
1. To manage and coordinate the UK/CE packaging design launch schedule across general merchandise
2. To create great UK & Central European packaging designs which make what matters better for customers and which achieve a consistent look and feel.

Key Responsibilities:
• You will be the champion for the client's brand & Brands by the client packaging design for general merchandise
• You will plan and project-manage all aspects of the packaging design process from agreed design through to in store, including SRP.
• You will manage photographers and artwork agencies to deliver brand packaging to agreed critical path.
• You will work collaboratively & cross functionally with both the wider design, commercial and brand team to ensure designs meet customer needs.
o Where necessary & agreed you will create UK/CE -specific designs that are consistent in look & feel with the Group designs
o You will work within the Design Council process to ensure these briefs & designs are signed off by the Group Marketing Director
• You will ensure that all stages of the development process are completed at each key date agreed and produce weekly reports to the Marketing Director highlighting any issues
• You will monitor the costs for each project against the plan
• You will manage the workload across all external resources to ensure effective utilisation
• You will highlight any issues with suppliers which affect critical path for launch
• You will work with the business change team to help define the process for managing packaging design in general merchandise
• You will work with the teams to propose and suggest approaches for structural packaging
• You will manage the GM involvement for event design

Key people with whom you will interact:
• You will report to the GM Marketing Director (ME) and the CE Commercial Director (KD)
• UK & CE Category Directors and their teams will be your key clients
o Although UK/CE brand/marketing will be the final decision makers.
• The UK/CE brand plan will drive the packaging design programme of work
• Regional design managers across food and GM will be important peers
• International sourcing will be colleagues and a potential satellite team
• Good relationships with the Insight functions will enable you to ensure packaging designs make what matters better for UK customers

Skills & Experience Required:
• Classic packaging design management in retail or global artwork and repro company.
• Experience of managing design agencies and photographers preferred in addition.
• Experience of working with international teams would be a bonus
• Extremely strong influencing skills required with experience of high volume, fast moving, complex packaging projects. Passion and energy for design.
