Senior Media & Employee Communications Manager

The Senior Media & Employee Communications Manager is responsible for managing and evaluating the performance of professional and support staff. With staff, develop, implement and monitor communication plans, policies and procedures to support the strategic goals and business objectives. Serve as strategic communications counsel with senior management, including directing 24-hour media and crisis communications response. Proactively generate public and employee awareness and understanding about key company projects, initiatives and issues; coordinate with Regional Public Affairs, and other departments and the Corporate Center to ensure consistency of messages in external and internal communications.

Responsibilities/Duties:

- Consult, develop and implement internal and external communications strategies, plans, tactics, policies and programs; manage staff and relationships with outside communications vendors and consultants.

- Research, write and edit all types of external and internal communication materials, including video and presentations.

- Represent the utilities in a professional manner as media spokesperson; develop and maintain relationships with key media reporters/editors from local, national and trade outlets.

- Serve as strategic lead to direct emergency and crisis communications and manage staffing for 24-hour centralized media response.

- Manage departmental budget.

- Performs other duties as assigned (no more than 5% of duties.)

Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in journalism, public relations, communications or a related field and/or a minimum of 7-8 years of experience in news, PR, or related field.

Excellent writing, editing, oral communications, communications planning, issues and project management skills.
Experience as a media spokesperson.
Extensive experience with crisis management
Work effectively in a team environment and ability to work in a large organization with multiple layers.
Manage department budget to goals.
Approve expenditures up to $100,000.
Approve staff training opportunities and expense reports.
