The client's Division of Membership and Scientific Advancement is the major entity responsible for recruiting, retaining and recognizing membership. Developing and implementing the programs, products, and services that support members are our most critical role. The Department of Membership Marketing promotes all of the products, programs, and services that support the value proposition of membership. The department also has a leading role in the development of technology that supports member and non-member communications and transactions with the organization. The department promotes, assesses, and makes recommendations to enhance all of the products, programs, and services that support the value proposition of membership. 
Position Summary 
The position reports directly to the Manager, Membership Recruitment and is responsible for implementing membership recruitment and development activities that meet the goals of the clients' strategic plan. Primary responsibilities are the development, coordination and execution of multiple membership recruitment campaigns delivered in print, Web, email, telemarketing, and social media and other formats. Among the campaigns assigned to the incumbent are most of the efforts directed at audiences underrepresented in the sciences, many international target groups, and former members, and the position serves as liaison between Membership Marketing and the staff of the Diversity Activities office. The incumbent recommends commercial mailing lists for membership acquisition efforts based on their own in-depth analysis of previous campaigns, external factors such as trends and target audiences, and the strategies being determined by the manager. The position assists the Manager in the development and execution of marketing campaigns related to membership recruitment; serves as a contact with external marketing firms, vendors, and suppliers; develops and maintains detailed marketing analysis reports and various other prospect files. 
Required Skills 
1. Responsible for all phases of the recruitment marketing efforts assigned – develop, execute and manage marketing campaigns designed to achieve the society’s membership and revenue goals. Assists in managing all aspects of campaigns including collateral, direct mail, email, web projects, telemarketing, new member gift fulfillment, and production timelines, while staying current with and implementing best industry practices. Tracks budgets and costs; makes vendor selection, and negotiates and executes contracts. 
2. Conducts more than 20 annual marketing campaigns using multi-media strategies, each of which can include the web, telemarketing, viral, and site-based efforts. Utilizes outside vendors, Customer Management Systems (CMS), broadcast email delivery platforms, IT, and in-house resources. Works with IT and NetForum team to develop reports and test applications. The incumbent is required to create and enter campaign and source codes in NetForum. 
3. Develops and executes complex marketing tests against established controls for the purpose of always improving Return on Investment (ROI). Collect data from tests and determine results. Makes recommendations for future tests and strategies to manager based on test performance, costs, and trends. 
4. Works with third-party list broker to select commercial mailing lists and list subsets, quantities, disciplines, geography, and demographics for major direct mail and email membership acquisitions and conducts post campaign analysis and tracks and reports results. 
5. Responsible for the membership list for rental through a third-party broker to meet pre-established revenue goals. Confers with other units (Publications, Professional Ed, Meetings, Careers) to protect them from competitive offerings. 
6. Responsibilities include maintenance of an invoice log, marketing calendar, New Member inbox, and reconciliation of Distribution by ID reports for all recruitment expenses monthly. 
Required Experience 
College degree or equivalent experience; may have an advanced degree or equivalent experience; 5+ years of experience. Experience in developing and implementing direct mail and web-based marketing programs preferred. Some travel, including weekend travel, required.
