Senior Front End Developer

A collaborative, multidisciplinary marketing and communication group design to support one of the top liberal arts colleges in New York City is seeking a Front End Developer. This position will start within the next 2 weeks and will be a few months (or longer). They are looking for someone with experience building sites with big end custom design and functionality. They will phone screen someone and maybe do an in-person interview. The more live examples to look at, the better.

Online Strategies — part of Marketing & Communications (M&C) — builds and maintains the public web presence. It is their charge to oversee and develop a forward thinking online experience for the university and each of its divisions (including Parsons) and administrative departments.

The directors, web producers, and web developer in the department contribute to everything from kick-offs to creative briefs, defining strategy and developing information architecture, to hands-on production and implementation. An ideal Front End Developer candidate will be a strategic thinker with the technical ability to build practical and inventive web solutions. This role reports to the director(s?) of Online Strategies, and works in tandem with web producers, web programmer, and designers.

Detail of Responsibilities:
- Participates in creative brainstorming and concept development and provides insight based on technical specifications and best practices.
- Builds out front end user interfaces using responsive design best practices, HTML5, CSS3, and various scripting languages with direction from the project lead and while following technical and design specifications.
- Builds special and dynamic one-off online components and pages as marketing needs dictate.
- Collaborates with designers and back-end developer to ensure viability of front-end experience.
- Stays abreast of current developments, standards, and best practices in the online industry.

Requirements:
- Ideally self-motivated, detail-oriented, collaborative, and in tune with current & emerging web technologies
- Demonstrated experience as a web professional
- Degree in web technologies or related fields
- Proficiency and experience in using HTML5 and CSS3
- Proficiency and experience in using JavaScript and the jQuery library
- A working understanding of responsive web design and its best practices
- Demonstrated ability to translate designs into HTML/CSS/CSS3 taking into account cross-browser and cross-platform compatibility (PC/Mac, Internet Explorer 8+, Firefox, Safari, Chrome, etc.)
- Experience developing for Wordpress and PHP
- An understanding of large scale Content Management Systems
- Experience with social media APIs
- Web usability and W3C compliance
- Must feel comfortable working in a dynamic and flexible environment with changing requirements
- Ability to communicate and collaborate with a variety of team members
- Other duties as assigned
