Senior Designer (Fashion)

The Sr. Designer is responsible for leading in the management and direction for designing new concepts and designs for a product category within defined theme and seasons from concept through final delivery. This person will be designing labels, bottles, and help with the development of concept boards. The team is looking for graphics and illustration skills but not necessary print/pattern skills as related to textiles. They are looking for a trained graphic designer with illustration skills and experienced in photoshoots.

Responsibilities
• Conceptualize and translate design trends into concepts and manages the components of a seasonal collection
• Conceptualize multiple creative solutions to address product strategies with multiple design options within cost parameters
• Create and execute final designs
• Partner with merchants and product development to ensure the integrity of the design is maintained during the product development process
• Create Design Turn Overs (DTO) and finalize art work for hand-off to the Production Team
• Order project comps
• Review re-touching and matchprints / vendor proofs
• Review mechanicals for final design approval prior to release
• Provide on-press supervision for major launch programs
• Participate in product development feasibility discussions
• Research trends and patterns for upcoming seasons – identify fashion trends – apply them for product / label design
• Perform talent management activities if leading a team, including building a high performing team
• Mentor and coach internal design team
• Initiate and oversee the design board layouts and printouts
• Provide approved designs and design direction to specification / mechanical team for development of technical specifications
• Art direct photoshoots
• Provide art direction to designers
• Collaborate with cross-functional partners
• Gain approval from Legal and Regulatory on designs
• Problem solve obstacles or challenges to keep design work on track, including construction and cost engineering

DESIGN SKILLS
• Design with a focus on typography, placing print and pattern, and a great eye for detail and color sense.
• Design and Art Direction skills required – Illustrator and PhotoShop
• Product Illustration
• Photography art direction
• Provide bulk and component color submissions / targets to product development and package engineering. Review and approve color submission for bulk and components.
• High level knowledge of: construction , printing process , color production
• For 3D Design, high level knowledge of: concept & design feasibility and industrial design , product development
• Strong understanding of the customer

COLLABORATION / PARTNERSHIPS
• Partners with Design Ops Managers, Production Managers, Production Artists,
• Partners with Product Development, Commercialization, Package Engineering
• Partners with Brand Development and/or Retail Merchants
• Partners with Legal, Regulatory
• Partner with HR on recruiting process for Design job openings within the design department

BUDGET
• Understanding of material costs
• Understand how to design within cost parameters
• Estimate comp costs
• Managing projects within a budget
• Obtain estimates from comp house and /or agencies

MANAGEMENT
• Manage Designers and Contractors
• Manage people, process, product

PRESENTATION
• Presents designs to AVP and/ or Design Director, Merchants, SVP, Design and President Brand Development
• Be able to present a point of view and present/represent their team’s concept and design ideas

EXTERNAL AGENCIES / CONTRACTORS
• Manage external agencies and/or contractors, vendors

MEETING RESPONSIBILITIES
• Attend and participate in weekly design meetings
• Align and prepare content, attend and participate in weekly Design/Merchant meetings.
• Provide design presentation to leadership
