Senior Content Editor (travel)

We are looking for a Senior Content Editor to join one of the UK’s largest news portals. The client’s website receives more than 20 million hits a month, so it is a great opportunity to get involved in something incredible and exciting.

Role Purpose

• Using your passion, your role is to deliver a timely, exciting and different experience everyday to our users.
• You will have a good understanding of the internet and how to grow audience using various mediums at your disposal.
• You will commission, source and write feature articles that are relevant, timely and interesting to the Travel users and build out fun, engaging and newsworthy topics.
• You will work with our existing content and service partners to drive users into the channels and deliver return on investment by insuring that they are properly represented on all our channels.
• Brainstorm, manage and deliver commercial features for our substantial list of advertisers.
• You’ll need excellent writing and copy editing skills and good experience of using web content management systems and photo editing software.
• Manage an annual, monthly and weekly plan to deliver timely and bespoke events.
• Use internal tracking and stats tools to ensure we hit our user, page view and click targets each month.
• Monitor users’ feedback and, wherever appropriate, act on them.
• Engage, action and evangelise the wider Strategy.

Senior Editor Responsibilities

• Lead the content management of Travel, from monthly brainstorms, weekly plans to daily news meetings
• Coordinate and drive long-term projects such as specialist partnerships with advertisers, be confident with interviewing celebrities and industry experts, both on and off camera, regularly use our web-chat format for interviews, manage holiday period content delivery (e.g. at Xmas and in summer) etc.
• Coordinate cross-channel initiatives as needed
• Be prepared to help run other sections within the the Lifestyle portfolio when necessary, for example the Her channel
• Spec and coordinate build of special new sections
• Liaison with Specials team
• Ensure we deliver on our Consumer Propositions
• Strategise and improve social media across Travel, and delegate as needed in this area
• Manage our field of columnists and freelancers
• Implement UCG across the Travel channel
• Improve news coverage across Travel
• PR relationships and stories
• Champion SEO
• Hit commercial PV or CDP targets
• Co-ordinate our team of work experience and interns
• Make sure editors deliver on their responsibilities
• Ensure Editors adhere to general housekeeping rules
• Respond to Sales requests fast and effectively to ensure we hit target
• Work closely with commercial teams on joint sales pitches and similar brief responses.
• Manage freelance budget
• Manage the website on a day-to-day basis, and use Omniture to ensure we hit required UU/PV/Visit metrics.
• Represent Travel at industry events, PR evenings, dinners, launches, etc.


Editor Responsibilities

• Bespoke article creation - Commission, write and source from our partners daily.
• Budget, Image and Content Spend – Manage and monitor your content spend, POs and commissioning briefs.
• Channel Management – Channel homepage to be updated daily and sub pages to be updated twice a week as a minimum.
• Channel Plans / Positioning / Tracking – Plan the fixed positions with firm schedule of forthcoming content and ultimately track its success.
• Columnist & Bloggers: Work closely with your bloggers and columnists to maximise ROI, PV and timely content to the portal.
• Content Packaging - Deliver brilliant content packages using the assets list on the FY12 editorial planning sheet.
• Evergreen Content - Commit to delivering the EG List on the FY12 Editorial planning sheet.
• High PV Tools: Aim to supply and commission a regular stream of high PV content as needed
• Images - Adhering to image reporting requirements.
• Interviews - Must be available to interview talent and manage the subsequent promotion of video content on the channel
• Multimedia - Contributing to the use of multimedia. This will include photos, video and podcasting.
• NEP – Offer and respond to daily NEP request for timely coverage.
• Partner Content – Work with our partners to maximise content opportunities and sync with our monthly plans.
• Plans – Update the plan on a monthly basis and refer to it for planning on a weekly basis.
• PR: Actively seek ways to promote your channels with the PR team and external agencies.
• Search and Live Services – You will ensure that Bing is promoted as much as possible in your work so we achieve our monthly search targets.
• SEO – All bespoke creations must adhere to SEO guidelines.
• Social Media: You will be active in promoting your content through the social media channels.
• Specials and Advertorials – Manage and deliver commercial specials and advertorials in line with the specified process.
• Statistics: Responsible for gathering stats data and partner reporting. Update the monthly flag and editorial mailbags.
• Style Guide & Subbing - Adhering editorial policies and guidelines. Executing on subbing process.
