Retail Merchandise Planner

The Retail Merchandise Planners are using a planning system called “Maple Lake” ; however, this contractor can be trained on that specific system. Candidates MUST have experience with some sort of Planning System and have EXPERT excel experience. We would prefer local candidates, unless someone is already planning on relocating themselves here. Retail experience is a MUST have, and Experience with planning for outlets would be a very nice to have! 3-5 years of merchandise planning experience is required.

General Position Summary:
Responsible for developing specific merchandise plans to meet key business objectives and financial goals, ensuring profitability and aligning product offering with consumer purchasing trends in retail stores.

Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities:

Drive financial results that maximize sales, inventory and profitability at the channel level.

Develop, execute and communicate strategic merchandise financial plans and strategies that support the merchandising, marketing and financial objectives of the channel.

Direct the development of pre-season sales, gross margin and inventory plans that support product strategies

Analyze historical data and current trends to identify risks and opportunities to business and recommend strategies to achieve financial goals; conduct hindsight analysis to incorporate learnings into current plans

Review total financial plans with Merchandise Managers and DMM to ensure alignment of future financial and product opportunities.

Recap and analyze actual sales results by product class to plan and forecast in-season business on a weekly, monthly and annual basis.

Analyze current trends to create markdown strategy

Responsible for open to buy process and forecasts.

Secondary Functions:
Participate in cross-functional initiatives to develop processes and systems to support the forecasting, replenishment and allocation activities necessary to support the business.

Recommend strategies to maximize business by department and/or location.

Take part in Quarterly Guidance, and communicate the retail reforecast with other Business Units.

Participate in line reviews.

Travel to stores as needed with cross functional team.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibility:
Job includes no supervisory responsibility.

Specific Job Skills:
Analytical and numbers oriented, must have a vision of how merchandise should be presented or grouped, understand store profiles.

Strong understanding of retail math including intricacies of open to buy, inventory turnover and gross margin.

Familiarity with merchandise management systems and retail planning software.

PC proficient with working knowledge of Excel including writing formulas.

Exceptional analytical and problem solving skills.

Must have completed and Ironman.

Strong organizational and influencing skills required.

Ability to work successfully in a team environment and across multiple functions and departments.

Education and/or Experience:
Bachelors degree in Business, Merchandising or related field.

3-7 years experience in retail merchandise planning, buying or allocation.

Experience working in a merchant organization as a planner, buyer or equivalent position. Experience in a wholesale apparel organization is preferred.

Prior retail planning experience is required.

Project Management experience strongly preferred.
