Coordinator – Research & Development

Business Summary

Disney ABC Television’s R&D group is a small and agile technology strategy organization that

incubates new technology, executes proof of concepts, transfers technology innovations to

operating groups, and provides strategic recommendations on new technology opportunities.

The scope is any technology (hardware, software, data analytics, etc.) related to television

production, creative development, digital media, newsgathering, marketing, distribution,

operations and IT. The group was started in summer 2012 and reports to the CTO of Disney ABC

Television Group.

Job Description

We are looking for a highly organized and motivated self-starter with sound project

management skills to contribute to the general goals of the R&D group. The coordinator will

have exposure to a range of projects across the R&D portfolio and be responsible for day-to-day

operations, administration and ensuring that projects progress on time and that dependencies

and contingencies are carefully managed. Communication, including the ability to interface with

executive-level stakeholders, will be crucial to success in this position.

Responsibilities

 Provide day-to-day support on R&D projects, with likelihood of deep involvement in at least

one major initiative.

 Perform basic project management tasks, facilitate communication and provide administrative

support as needed. This includes, but is not limited to: managing the onboarding of

contractors, handling payment and invoicing, general correspondence, helping to schedule

meetings.

 Assist in developing socialization materials to raise awareness of disruptive technologies

across the organization, including presentations, whitepapers, newsletters and R&D

SharePoint site.

 Participate in meetings surrounding R&D projects, maintaining awareness of both existing

projects within the R&D portfolio as well as major industry trends and developments.

 Manage R&D lab and lab equipment, including but not limited to providing demonstrations of

technologies for organizational stakeholders and facilitating ordering/setup of required items

and components.

Basic Qualifications

 Minimum 2-3 years experience in project management or similar role at a technology, media

or entertainment company

 Well organized, able to manage projects and deliverables

 Strong communication, analytical and writing skills

 Comfort in navigating a large corporate organization and interfacing with senior executives

 Creativity, desire to learn new things, obsession with media, technology and innovation

 Conversant in basic technology concepts

 Proficient in Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint/Keynote

Preferred Qualifications

 Undergraduate Engineering, Computer Science or Film/Television Production degree or

equivalent experience

 Experience in the television business a plus

 Working knowledge of HTML/CSS

 Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and/or InDesign

 Knowledge of one or more programming languages a plus
