Our client, a well known non-profit in the D.C. area, is looking for a Research Librarian to join their team. This position is a contract role in the D.C. office and this person will be filling in for a duration of 5-6 months.
The Senior Associate, Research Librarian position offers a challenging opportunity for an individual to contribute to a wide range of initiatives for a leading nonprofit institution. The primary duties of the Research Librarian are conducting customized research on behalf of staff, maintaining and strengthening the organization's Washington, D.C. library collection, and providing frontline library support to the D.C. staff. This Research Librarian would be a member of the Knowledge Management and Research Support unit.

Responsibilities:
-Support philanthropic and program activities by providing on-demand customized research services, including environmental scans, literature reviews, biographical profiles and other reports.
-Maintain and strengthen the organizations Washington D.C. library.
-Select research materials, including books, reports, periodicals, and electronic resources, that support the research activities of staff.
-Actively promote Knowledge Management and Research Support throughout the organization.
-Educate staff in research skills through staff orientation, formal training classes and one-on-one user education.
-Participate in the analysis and evaluation of new information tools and services.
-Assist with the development of the annual Knowledge Management and Research Support budget and coordinate the purchasing and borrowing of materials for staff.
-Oversee and assist the work of the D.C. Library Research Coordinator.
-Serve as a back-up for serials check-in, circulation, interlibrary loan and other library administrative duties as required.

Qualifications:
-5+ years professional library experience. Special library experience preferred but not required
-Bachelor’s degree required. ALA-accredited Master of Library Science preferred.
-Experience with supervising or mentoring staff preferred.
-Strong research and analytical skills.
-Ability to find info in a broad range of subject matter.
-Ability to work independently and with other professionals in a collaborative, project-focused environment.
-Skilled at setting priorities, organizing time and identifying resources for projects.
-Good interpersonal skills and customer service orientation.
-Willingness to work with library users at all levels of research skill.
-Excellent oral and written communication skills.
-Ability to synthesize information and report back in concise, well-organized reports.
-Strong database search skills required, including familiarity with Factiva, Lexis-Nexis, and EBSCOHost.
