Public Relations/Communications Manager

Our client plays a vital, leadership role in achieving change in gun laws, policies, and practices in this country. They are looking for a Communications Coordinator to create innovative and effective communications campaigns that spanning earned, paid and owned media channels. The ideal candidate will be an experienced media relations professional that can also work with creative resources to produce inspiring print and digital communications materials. Responsibilities include pitching stories to local and national media, responding to media inquiries, developing communications campaign materials, and working with communications channel managers to ensure coverage in social media, email, mobile messaging and website channels. Excellent written and verbal communications, project management and relationship skills are required.

(This is a temporary position for 3-6 months and may be converted into a full time position after that period. )

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategy and Planning
• Works with the chief marketing officer to develop and execute an annual plan that supports Brady’s strategic goals, delivers value to stakeholders and inspires key audience segments to action.
• Collaborates with stakeholders to identify needs, recommend tactics and publish an annual communications calendar.

Media Relations
• Coordinates media outreach and fielding media inquiries with Deputy Direct of Media Relations
• Writes press releases and pitches stories to national and local media to generate media coverage
• Identifies and converts local rapid response opportunities into media coverage
• Fields and responds to public health and safety media inquiries, educating members of the local and national media with facts, statistics, and quotes.
• Works with the public relations agency to pitch national media on the leadership in approaching gun violence as a public health and safety issue.

Communications Materials
• Partners with program managers in public health and safety and the legal action project and manages creative resources to plan and develop content, including fact sheets, infographics, printed materials and videos.
• Coordinates distribution of public health and safety and legal action project communications materials to the media.

QUALIFICATIONS
• 5-7 years public relations and communications experience, ideally working on public health and safety advocacy, political campaigns or issue campaigns.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including writing quick-turn press releases.
• Established relationships with members of the national press an asset but not required.
• Demonstrated ability to provide high service levels to internal customers across departments, stakeholders and a variety of subject matter experts.
• Experience working with and managing creative agencies or freelancers and a passion for producing high quality for creative work.
• Excellent organization and project management skills and a demonstrated ability to manage multiple, complex projects to budget and schedule.
• Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience.
• A commitment to reducing gun violence.
