Responsible for ensuring the technical accuracy of the text, performing edits for organization, content, technical accuracy, and style. Also responsible for exercising good judgment on assessing the level of edit a project requires at every stage in the process.

The person would need to initially write our release note (we would supply the structure) and edit descriptions for mathematical functions written in C#. The long descriptions in our function documentation use expressive, domain-specific mathematical language such as those found in statistics and linear algebra textbooks. These descriptions have already been written by scientists. However, in many cases the scientists do not have English as a first language. So, we need developmental editing and a certain amount of re-writing. The target language is English, so English as a first language is necessary.

The ability to read or write one or more high-level programming languages is required. Solid reading knowledge of a programming language. Outstanding technical editing skills are required. Must be familiar with the editing requirements for programmer documentation deliverables. Must have the ability to develop, edit, and test code samples. Must have strong organizational capability and ability to work on several complex editing tasks simultaneously. Must have a strong understanding of the technology being documented or its equivalent. Must be able to work independently and as part of a team. Must be able to meet deadlines. The ability to work closely with documentation management, programmer writers, production teams, program managers, and developers on issues affecting the quality of documentation is required. Must have the ability to handle or oversee multiple projects simultaneously. Specific knowledge of, and interest in, several major technologies required. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Technical Communications or related field preferred. Bachelor's degree in English Literature, Journalism, or a related field, with extensive industry experience and/or a certificate of completion of a course in a programming language is acceptable.
