Program Manager

In this position you will have the opportunity to contribute to the vision and strategy of a global news site editorial process and work closely with multiple partners across the US. Your industry expertise will help you provide strategic guidance and innovation to the copy-desk team. You will be responsible for scheduling a 24/7 staff, hiring new editors as needed, and reporting to a project lead (FTE). You will manage a staff of copy editors who have a strong copy editing background, a passion for quality, and familiarity with Associated Press style. You will be able to work in a fast-paced, technology-driven environment and prioritize multiple tasks. We need someone who really understands the online news industry and can bring best practices, efficiencies, and innovation to the copy-desk engagement.

Key Responsibilities:
• Be a leader and key contributor to the editorial team
• Work with stakeholders to define strategy and road map aligned to that strategy
• Work closely with stakeholders to create efficiencies and improve SLAs
• Ensure visibility to work and keep the team focused on the right priorities
• Partner with the leadership team to improve effectiveness and develop best practices
• Drive cross-group relationships
• Generate and analyze production reports for weekly monitoring and quarterly business review

Requirements:
• 5+ years of related experience, preferably with a mix of online and traditional news
• 2+ years of related experience as a people manager
• Proven ability to be a leader of a cross-disciplinary team
• Strong project management and leadership skills
• Successful track record of running teams using agile development methodologies and delivering on project commitments
• Excellent written and verbal communication/presentation skills through all levels of the organization, technical and non-technical
• Ability to deal with ambiguity, and given any problem design innovative solutions
• Solid understanding of web technologies and ability to go deep in technical areas
• Good problem-solving skills and ability to think strategically
• Solid understanding of how consumers engage on the web and how social trends form
• General understanding of search engine optimization
• Understanding of successful distribution techniques is desirable
• Experience with Media/Content Management Systems, Web Publishing/Advertising desirable
• Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience)

Work location: Remote NYC or Seattle
