Vitamin T client looking for the perfect blend of a Production Artist and Advertising specialist. This is a temp to perm opportunity in Washington DC - working with a major university. This position breaks down to 70% production & 30% advertising - so ideal candidates should have a strong design/production background with agency or advertising experience as well. Candidates MUST be experienced in both Adobe CS5 AND QuarkXPress - heavy on layout and pre-press.

Position Summary:
The Office of Publications and Design Services, under Public Affairs, oversees the production of internal and external publications and advertising that promote the University to diverse audiences with the goals of making it better known and supporting the University’s enrollment and development efforts. The production and advertising specialist will design/resize University advertisements and publications using QuarkXPress and Adobe Creative 5.0 Suite software. They will meet with University faculty and staff to determine their media needs, as well as meet with outside media representatives to research, place, and track the success of University advertisements.

Essential Responsibilities Include:
Designing advertising and publications for print and electronic media.
Resizing existing ads for print or electronic media. Meeting with University faculty and staff to determine their advertising needs.
Meeting with external media vendors to place advertisements.
Tracking invoices from media vendors and ensure they are paid by the University client.
Maintaining a calendar of all University events requiring marketing.
Maintaining and updating advertising specs database for distribution to academic programs and administrative offices.
Helping to write ad copy as needed. Using research tools to develop marketing campaigns.
Using Google Analytics to provide advertising reports.
Providing other support (including but not limited to graphic design) as assigned by the director of publications and the associate vice president for public affairs. Maintaining contact with beat sources on campus who advertise to support the newsgathering efforts of public affairs and advertising efforts of the University.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required in Graphic Design, Marketing, Advertising, Communications or English preferred.
Minimum of (2) years of professional experience in production/graphic design and at least one (1) year of professional full-time experience in marketing/advertising.
Advertising agency and copywriting experience preferred.
Experience in a MAC-based environment with proficiency in QuarkXPress, FileMaker Pro, and Adobe Creative Suite software. Excellent proofreading and editing skills; strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills are essential; ability to prioritize work and general office procedures.
Ability to work independently, under deadlines, without close supervision; self-directed in the initiation, coordination and completion of tasks; acute attention to detail.
