Product Specialist

​The Product Specialist is accountable for assisting the product management team in the management of one or more Lines of Business (LOB). This position is responsible for conducting market analysis; and analyzing feature/functionality to drive product improvements in support of a product’s road-map. Additional responsibilities will include interacting with the development team to ensure business requirements in the form of user stories are understood by the agile team.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with product management team to collect and translate business requirements into user stories for the development team to implement
  • Participate in product strategy discussions as needed
  • Proactively manage and prioritize a backlog containing features, enhancements and defects
  • Develop appropriately detailed specifications in the form of acceptance criteria for product features so that they are clearly understood by the development teams
  • Work with development team to ensure that they understand the vision for the product
  • Collaborate with the development team to define, design, accept and adapt features
  • Coordinate communication between development team and stakeholders regarding goals, requirements and business needs
  • Ensure each iteration delivers working software and each release is a minimally viable set of features
  • Ability to understand big picture concepts and break them down into detail needed to implement them
  • Ability to distinguish between necessary features and desirable features, and plan accordingly
  • Ability to translate business and technical goals into small, testable iterations
  • Ability to pick up technical and business concepts quickly
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to tailor communication to the intended audience (i.e., management vs. developers)
  • Demonstrate respect for multiple perspectives (e.g., user vs. engineering vs. business)
  • Ability to thrive in a collaborative environment
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and project management skills
  • Ability to manage multiple demands at any given time
  • All other duties as assigned 
  • Supports, participates and adheres to the organization’s Information Security Management System program, complying with all established policies and procedures relating to the ISMS including, but not limited to:
    • Responsible for the protection of company information assets under their care or operation
    • All employees have a professional duty to report any information security issues or incidents or situations that present potential security risks to their direct supervisor and/or the Management Representative
    • Operate within division or department policy guidelines using independent judgment in achieving assigned objectives


  • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university, Business or Engineering preferred
  • Product Management training and/or certification from Pragmatic Marketing
  • 2+ years’ experience as a Product Owner or Business Analyst in a SAAS environment
  • Compliance business process knowledge helpful but not required
  • Experience on an agile team utilizing a 2-week sprint cadence is essential
  • Understanding of software user interface best practices and proven success driving software UI design
  • Energy & Utilities industry experience valued, but not required


  • Strong inter-personal skills and an ability to collaborate effectively cross-departmentally
  • Excellent communications skills, with ability to clearly articulate product vision, value, etc. internally and to market
  • Ability to build collaborative relationships with clients to enable open product feedback
  • Detail-oriented with excellent process and project management ability
  • Ability to meet established deadlines and keep management apprised of any delays
  • Strong ability to work effectively under pressure and tight time commitments
  • Ability to be both strategic and tactically
