Print Production Manager

Types of activity: Proofs, Estimates, Prioritizing Demands, Communication internally with Brands, Sales, Logistics, also outside vendors. Timing of display builds and material arrivals. Heavy schedule management with aggressive get it done attitude when certain parts of the process are holding up everything. Ability to advise internal clients with their print needs and guide them in the process. Heavy vendor management skills including weekly status reviews, managing relationships with updated pricing and timing of key elements.

Project Management

  • Analyze project scope to properly identify goals and expectations.
  • Clearly identify the end use for each program component and design each element to best meet desired outcome.
  • Establish key project milestones with customer to ensure on-time and on-budget delivery.
  • Effectively manage vendors to ensure all program requirements are met from pre-press, through production, Fulfillment and distribution.
  • Deliver exceptional quality, costs and service for all materials developed and purchased.

    Vendor Management
  • Manage supplier performance, utilizing cross-functional pre-production and post production meetings to ensure continuous learning.
  • Conduct weekly project status reviews with suppliers to assure all critical milestones are met.
  • Manage supplier teams in all phases of pre-press and print production assignments.
  • Supervise and review all electronic and/or hard color proofs with customers and communicate revisions back to suppliers.
  • Supervise press-runs for job and color approval as needed.

    Customer Understanding>/b>
  • Facilitate initial project meeting to discuss the business need and/or objectives.
  • Collaborate with the customer and vendor to create innovative and cost effective program solutions that meet or exceed budget expectations

    Print Production Knowledge
  • Knowledge of file set-up in printer acceptable formats and color management systems.
  • Solid understanding of various print technologies including digital, lithography, flexography, rotary letterpress, silk screen, gravure, web, die sublimation, heat transfer.
  • Knowledge of printing on traditional paper and optional substrates including text and cover weight stocks, SBS, corrugate, plastics, vinyl, foil, holographic, lenticular, vacuum forming.
  • Experience with pressure sensitive label construction types, material and applications including traditional PS labels, straight IRCs, plow fold IRCs, ECL (Expanded Content Label) booklet labels.
  • Expertise in print production finishing including foil stamping hot/cold, UV/aqueous coatings, film laminating/mounting, embossing/debossing, die cutting, folding/gluing.
  • Understanding of various bindery and finishing options including perfect bound, stitching, coil, wire and thermal binding, shrink wrapping, collation, insertions and kit packing.
  • Experience with bulk mail/ package fulfillment and distribution methods USPS, UPS etc.
  • Familiar with recycled content materials, recycled terminology and organizational certifications.

    Financial Management
  • Competitively bid each project utilizing the on line auction tool to identify low cost provider
  • Collaborate with customers and vendors to create innovative, cost effective program solutions that meet ir exceed budget expectations.
  • Proactively manage unplanned costs such as vendor overtime charges, excessive shipping costs and author alterations.
  • Continuously evaluate cost, process and project parameters to deliver against budget objectives.

    5+ years experience in graphic design, prepress, print production or related field. Must have strong project management skills with the ability to lead a project from concept to completion, including aligning internal and external resources as well as working within assigned budget.
