Print Production Manager

Immediate need for an experienced Print Production Manager for this Fashion House south of the city!
This position would start ASAP and go until the end of the year!

This position is responsible for managing the production process and ensuring that all catalogs meet production schedules and cost estimates and that print quality and color matches meet the companies standards. This position acts as a consultant to the creative staff regarding the production process, and as a liaison between outside suppliers and the creative and creative services staff.


  • Manage production for all catalogs (approx 24 per year). Ensure that production schedules are met, costs are managed within established guidelines, and that Talbots quality standards are maintained.

  • Act as a consultant to the creative and project management staff on the compatibility of designs, art work, layouts and image files with print processes. Collaborate with project partners to obtain the most cost-effective solution for meeting the project objectives and print standards.

  • Act as a liaison between suppliers and catalog development staff regarding requirements for catalogs and catalog bind-ins including production, bindery, and mailing specifications.

  • Establish and communicate production schedules to meet the In-Customers Hands dates or project deadlines, and update information continually based on on-going communications with Creative, Project Management and Graphic Production staffs regarding project revisions/additions.

  • Review all image files and layouts for catalogs, and determine their printability. Approve or make recommendations for revisions.

  • Collaborate with the printer, merchants, and creative staff to determine color adjustments in order to meet standards and reasonable color swatch matches.

  • Release projects for printing after ensuring that files are accurate. Generate purchase orders for printing services, and paper required for each project.

  • Review printers proofs and make recommendations for revisions. Give final on-line approval of “digital bluelines”, effectively approving versions, and releasing files for print.

  • Verify all invoice charges against the supplier’s quote; investigate all discrepancies and negotiate with the supplier for any adjustments needed. Write any invoice justifications to explain discrepancies between quote and invoice.

  • Ensure the timely production and delivery of catalog inserts to the proper finishing plant.

  • Identify the distribution requirements of each project and follow through to ensure safe and timely delivery to final destination. Also, ensure that international projects meet postal and shipping regulations.

  • Evaluate the reproduction quality and cost-effectiveness of each project and make recommendations for improving future projects. Preside over regularly-scheduled meetings with printers to discuss recent past, present, and future projects to foster continued quality and service improvement where necessary.

  • Estimate future production needs and make recommendations to the Director.
