Part Time Tech Writer

0 people like this description

Position is 5-10 hours/week, partially onsite and partially remote/after hours!

Our client is a small manufacturing company with 8 national and regional distributors. We implemented a home-grown EDI system a few years ago that links our shopping cart system to our fulfillment site and back to our accounting system and SalesForce. We are growing rapidly and this system and others, have grown over the past few years.
We are looking for an experienced Technical Writer that can help to create a proper operations manual for the position. Here’s a sampling of what would be included:
o * Component and Finished Good Purchasing Procedures (and record keeping)
o * Lot and serial # control of our finished goods
o * EDI Item change procedures – pricing, descriptions, etc.
o * Trending Reports for customer complaints and repairs
o * Sales rep activity tracking, scheduling follow-up activities, mailings, etc.
We need a smart systems person who can understand all this and be able to create simple instructions. A savvy tech writer that can come in and, after interviewing our staff and poking around a little under the hood, be able to make some quick progress.
The right person would have the following attributes:
• Software savvy, experience in a distribution or manufacturing environment – especially where quality assurance is involved (medical or aero writing background a plus, but IT focus okay)
• Excellent people skills with ability to make the technical understandable to those who are not so technically sophisticated, as our goal here is to have an ops manual that is so clear that any of our customer service people would know where to go for most of what pops up in the course of a week.
