Must have strong proofreading skills preferably within Financial Services environment.
Financial Marketing experience preferred. Alternatively, strong experience proofreading corporate marketing materials.
In concert with the QA Group Director, the goal of the Editing Representative team is to ensure flawless communication with the customer. By maintaining accuracy and consistency in grammar, style, and typography – across both print and electronic platforms – the team enables client varied business units to speak to the marketplace with a unified voice, free of errors that would erode confidence in the brand.
2. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Proofread copy for spelling, grammar, punctuation, syntax, usage, voice, and style according to guidelines set forth by client, the department, and the client.
Read output against original submission, checking for accuracy of content; adherence to layout specifications and instructions; conformity to typographic standards; and errors overlooked by the writer, such as misused words.
Help oversee quality standards by: (a) researching and answering questions related to grammar, usage, and style for Agency clients and coordinators; and (b) keeping proofreading staff up to date on standards, changes, specifications, and usage/grammar issues that affect the quality and accuracy of Agency projects.
Fact-check and verify information pertaining to the accuracy of individuals’ names and job titles, addresses, phone numbers, statistical data, charts, graphs, URLs, email addresses, trademarks and service marks, and company/product/service names.
Adhere to the client Style Guide on issues related to word usage, grammar, and style.
Solve problems resulting from inaccurate or incomplete instructions by consulting with the project manager, designer, or typesetter to ensure that final product conforms to client's intent.
The Editing Representative is responsible for the quality assurance (including fact checking) of many types of projects (e.g., marketing collateral, newspaper and magazine ads, email, white papers, out-of-home, newsletters, Web banners, and magazine articles).
The impact on the customer experience in significant, as the thousands of marketing pieces and Web pages that pass through QA impact the experience of millions of current Fidelity customers, as well as prospective ones, and may determine whether prospects become customers.
4. WORKING RELATIONSHIPS/CONTACTS:
The Editing Representative will have frequent contact with project managers, writers, and clients to verify information and intent, and to discuss changes to copy. There is also constant contact with proofreading peers and Mac operators.
5. KEY COMPETENCIES:
· Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Adobe Acrobat, Swiff Player, and PowerPoint.
· Excellent organizational and follow-through skills.
· Command of typographical terminology and standards.
· Ability to work under tight deadline pressure.
· Strong interpersonal skills; ability to work well as part of a team.
· Familiarity with the Chicago Manual of Style.
· Bachelor’s degree, preferably in English.
· Two to three years’ experience as a proofreader.
· Excellent command of the English language.
· Experience in a desktop publishing or traditional typesetting department is a plus.
· Financial services experience preferred.
