Packaging Production Artist Freelance

We have a freelance project based packaging Production position with our retail client in San Diego. This will be starting in a couple weeks and will be an on-going project based work. This is a great opportunity for freelancing! (Must be available on-site during the week on call basis) Must be strong a production and packaging.

Brief Description: Ensure timely production of all private brand packaging print projects. Interface with designers, copywriters, product development team. Responsible for developing a mechanical file accurately and efficiently so it can be given to an outside print vendor to be produced. Ideal candidate will have a strong print industry knowledge. This position involves the creation of artwork that maintains design integrity and established branding while effectively interpreting the creative into a deliverable that is reproducible on press.
Primary Tasks: Produce new package art based on established brand guidelines onto a specific dieline. Must be highly organized, flexible to changing conditions and be constantly aware of project deadlines. Focus is an integral part of this position. Must have the proactive ability to communicate clearly with team members. Follow creative direction as provided by the Communications Manager for all projects.
Required Skills: Production: Expected to have an outstanding level of production ability to take an approved master creative composition and lay it out into various sizes and formats while keeping the original intent of the approved creative intact. Multi-tasking: Will be given several projects at one time to complete over various timelines. Mechanical build: Must be able to properly build a mechanical from scratch in CS6 and be able to pick up an existing file to make edits or changes based on updated content and/or translations. In both cases, responsible for, but not limited to, document size, crops or bleeds, project legend, placing and adjusting images, typography, general layout tasks. Collect for Output: A critical task is the ability to gather, package, and prepare a file correctly for output/mass production. Follow up on all outstanding artwork PDFs and press proofs.
Preferred Skills: Understanding of how imagery will print per specific process. 2. Strong understanding of all types of packaging dielines. 3.Understand what can be compromised creatively in the interest of producing the best print on shelf. 4. Experience with point size rules for all type and graphic elements; ability to adapt intended creative to a pack regardless of amount of copy/languages required. 5. Perform content change requests. 6. Create folded mockups from output of flat package. 7. Review completed work for accuracy before submitted for quality review. 8. Effectively communicate with team members. 9. Provide conceptual ideas when requested. 10. Provide basic photo direction that aligns with brand standards. 11. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested. 12. Ability to identify inconsistencies within a given sku in comparison to an overall category. 13. Perform other duties as assigned or required.
Additional Comments: 5+ years of packaging production artwork development within the retail or CPG market vertical. 5+ years of InDesign, Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop experience as it relates to packaging, CS6 or higher Understand dieline construction and printer requirements as it relates to the development of artwork. Innovation, compatibility and excellent customer skills are required. Excellent organization skills and attention to detail required. Excellent communication skills.
