Packaging Production

The primary role of the Production Designer is to finalize all aspects of the transition of approved design through refinement and extensions into a final release file for comp and production vendors. Meet with Studio Operations Manager, Creative Team Leader and comping vendors to develop printing requirements for printing of specific designs. Develop timing for release of files with Studio Operations Manager and Creative Team Leader. You must be proficient in digital packaging production, attention to detail, problem solving, relationship building, and professional conduct. Printing process knowledge of Flexo, Offset, and Gravure, Letterpress, and digital printing is important.

Major Areas of Accountability:

  • Provide an accessible and responsive production related skills client requests including digital file preparations in Adobe Creative Suite, retouching, 3D renderings in Adobe Photoshop.
  • Ensure that studio workflow processes are consistently followed and track status of projects – ensuring projects stay on timelines.
  • Facilitate communication of priorities and deadlines to all process participants.
  • Do production tasks; create design release files to production agency.
  • Inform Studio Operations Manager and Creative Team Leaders about production questions and revisions that are added out of the project scope.
  • Lead by example and following the approved processes and procedures.
  • Attend status meetings in order to understand/organize current projects.
  • Meet regularly with Studio Operations Manager and Creative Team Leaders to ensure open communications

    Skills & Knowledge:

  • Strong understanding of all phases of packaging design and production.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with ability to facilitate productive working relationships, and inter-department communications.
  • Superior organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Skilled communicator with ability to transfer information effectively and clearly.
  • Superior knowledge of Adobe CS5 and Microsoft Office software.
  • Strong print production experience in various printing methods and substrates used in packaging.
  • Knowledge of color, typography, and production pre-press and color separations.
  • Working knowledge of standard printing and legal requirements for packaging including US Drug Facts.
