Packaging Design Strategist/Researcher

A global consumer packaged goods company is looking for Packaging Design Strategists for upcoming projects in 2016.

The Packaging Development Design Strategist will be responsible for mining, managing, and translating packaging insights, industry trends, and client strategic visions into actionable packaging design strategies. The Packaging Design Strategist will also assist in unlocking the potential of new experiential packaging designs that connect with the needs of our clients' brands, operational platforms, consumer unmet needs and emotions, and functional requirements. And, ensure all solutions are aligned with corporate business strategy, show empathy for the user(s), and the needs of our end customers.

Additional responsibilities include:

 Provide strategic leadership in framing the needs of the corporate design competency and lead the effort to establish the appropriate personnel and support tools.
 Provide leadership to the Design team around strategic design development, design management process, and business innovations.
 Manage/build the corporate strategic design capability (including talent, processes, tools, techniques, templates, software, best practices etc.) as needed to enable enhanced client/marketplace value and to help fuel corporate growth strategies.Share
progress and best practices with global corporate packaging teams

 Lead in identifying opportunities and problem framing, define project success criteria, and complete stakeholder interviews as needed

 Facilitate and create innovative design concepts through ideation while ensuring solutions are in-line with project briefings, designed with an eye on the clients' business strategy, and aligned with the costs, benefits, industry/consumer insights, supplier manufacturing capabilities, etc. as defined by the program scope/success criteria. Prototype designs through leveraging expansive corporate supply base or internal corporate prototyping capability

 Design and actively participate in packaging/consumer research.

 Help designers synthesize the findings and frame the insights (personas, mood boards, archetypes, customer journey maps, mental models, touch point analysis, etc.).

 Build proactive strategic design efforts through identification of market trends, consumer behavior, etc.

 Develop design modifications that create manufacturing efficiencies and value chain advantages by using a thorough understanding of the supply base and their capabilities

 Assist with the presentation and delivery of final concepts to Design Managers

Education: This role requires a B.A. in Creative or Industrial Design, Marketing,

Packaging or similar (or equivalent experience).

Experience: Minimum of 5+ years overall experience in branding/packaging design management dealing with complex organizations, programs, and corporate strategies

Additional Skills:
 Strong communication skills; focus on customer interface, relationships, and presentation skills
 Understanding of consumer psychology as well as cultural and human factors involved in purchase decisions and experiential occasions
 Strategic expertise in consumer behavior, brand behavior, and in- store/merchandising dynamics
 Must be a strategic creative writer.

 Packaging design expertise and a thorough understanding of packaging design software and prototyping techniques

 Experience and familiarity with formal, financially driven business case methodology and development

 Experience working with multi-functional tams to formulate objectives and action plans

 Experience directing supplier and other "outside" resources to complement internal resources in support of program goals

 Strong attention to detail

 Certified Packaging Professional (CPP), preferred
