PR/Media Relations Manager

Our large asset management client is looking for a PR/Media Relations guru for a long term contract assignment (1yr +, could go perm) to join their rapidly growing PR team. This position reports directly to the Head of Public Relations The ideal candidate will have 5-7 years experience in PR/Media Relations within the asset management sector or a large fortune 500 corporation. This role is 70% execution of PR & Media Relations campaigns: coordinating with marketing / navigating internal process / building campaigns / creating messaging / and 30% working with journalists in the financial sector.

Responsibilities:

• Increase brand awareness for client and subsidiaries including client’s asset manager in the global financial marketplace
• Support strategic initiatives as part of North American PR strategy while ensuring consistency in approach with peers in Europe and Asia Pacific;
• Help build brand awareness, key messages and a dedicated public relations strategy for the company’s cross-organizational ESG effort;
• Manage incoming media inquiries, prepare spokespeople, and staff interviews;
• Conduct proactive media outreach, prepare press releases, media briefings, messaging documents, coverage reports, and communications plans;
• Ensure ongoing monitoring of editorial calendars and proactive pitching of story ideas, news developments, and expert sources to media;
• Cultivate relationships with internal stakeholders including business group leaders, spokespeople and other Global Marketing team colleagues;
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with local and national press including specialty trade reporters covering ESG investing.

Preferred Qualifications
• 5-7 years of experience in media relations at either an agency or on an in-house team;
• Deep media relations expertise and a love of news;
• Experience in financial services and/or asset management;
• Outstanding verbal and written communications skills and the ability to understand complex information and communicate it in simple terms to various audiences;
• A pragmatic, strategic thinker able to connect the dots across the business and apply them to PR initiatives;
• Proven track record of collaborating with colleagues in different teams and across geographies;
• Familiarity with media tools such as Radian6, Vocus, Cision and Gorkana;
• Ability to independently manage multiple projects and clients with changing priorities and meet deadlines in a dynamic, deadline-driven, high stakes environment;
• Professional, calm under pressure and client service oriented;
• Willingness to take initiative and problem solve;
• Detail-oriented, advanced writing skills, and the ability to communicate across all levels.
