PR Senior Client Director - Strategic Corporate Comms & Issues Management

My client is a fully integrated agency, with an exciting new position in one part of it’s impressive teams. This offering sits in the agency’s strategic corporate communications and issues management firm which partners with organisations to identify and articulate a consistent position that accurately reflects their values.

They help clients build a long-term strategic communications plan that is aligned with their business objectives and their values. My client supports them to build a proactive agenda and build organisational capability to deal with issues and opportunities in a way that enhances their reputation.

They provide honest and strategic counsel to support organisations, particularly through periods of crisis or when they are the subject of intense media or community focus.

As a result of sustained growth over the past 12 months, my client is recruiting for an experienced Senior Client Director to support the CEO and GM as well as managing and developing a team of reputation management and communications specialists.

With proven strategic and issues management capabilities and an exceptional understanding of the Australian media landscape, the Senior Client Director will work closely with team to drive the successful execution of their clients’ communications strategies.

The Senior Client Director will maintain outstanding relations with partners and will manage and deliver on complex and sensitive projects in addition to adding value and growth wherever possible.

Major Responsibilities of the Senior Client Director include:

• Client service
o Maintain relationships with senior level client contacts, key internal staff and with relevant media and industry figures
o Oversee the detailed quality control their partners expect
o Work with GM to manage issues with clients and build strong relationships
o Participate in new business development strategy and execution, including development of proposal materials and participation in new business meetings
o Proactively identify key issues and topics of interest to engage clients, partners and prospects and ensure we – and they – are aware of all relevant opportunities and threats
o Maintain a keen understanding of current events and the media landscape

• Corporate, media and issues strategic counsel
o Provide strategic advice and ideas on key reputation management issues
o Execution of reputation management and communications strategies quickly and effectively, usually while working under pressure
o Collaborate in the creation of corporate communications and media materials including strategies, communications plans, key messages, speaking notes, media briefings, external and internal communications and media responses

• People and project management
o Growth and development of staff
o Working with senior consultants, GM and CEO to prioritise and allocate tasks to meet the tight deadlines required in a dynamic issues-rich environment
o Lead day-to-day activity on key accounts while managing a revolving set of client projects related to issues management and/or corporate positioning

Key Attributes:

• You have excellent crisis or issues management experience and have developed skills in building strong strategic messaging to enhance the reputation of organisations.
• You have the project management skills, with the ability to prioritise and manage work flow across multiple clients in a fast paced and issues-rich environment
• You have strong knowledge of the Australian media, how it works and who’s who in the zoo and you’re curious about the world around you
• Have a genuine interest in corporate affairs, issues management and business
• You have the nuance and the nous to understand the difference between a garden variety photo opportunity and an issue
• You have excellent relationship skills and the ability and desire to build strong rapport and long term trust with partners of all levels
• You have the strength to give our partners the advice they need rather than advice they want
• You understand the communications needs of your clients and can easily implement a strategic agenda
• You are exceptionally well organised and have a reputation for maintaining a level and cool head and getting results
• You have a strong understanding of how social media works, and the impact it can have
• You have excellent staff management skills and respect for people across all levels of an organisation
