Title: Public Relations Consultant (Contractor Position)

Term: 6 month commitment

The Public Relations Consultant will champion the enhancement of our clients public
relations, messaging and media/influencer strategy in furtherance of becoming thought leaders
in the higher education industry. This consultant will work within the organization to identify key
messages in partnership with University leadership and will work externally to identify agency
partners to contract with. This position will report to the SVP of Marketing.

Within a 6­ month engagement, the Consultant will be responsible for the:

  • Identification, documentation, and timeline creation of department and university public
    relations initiatives accompanied by the identification of appropriate metrics needed to
    track initiative outcomes and resources/budget required.
  • Spearheading and driving the execution of the initiatives to completion.
  • Research, vetting and selection of a PR agency with approval by the University’s Governance Council.
  • Agency set up including timelines, budgets, and expected outcomes.
  • Monitoring and tracking of outcomes data related to initiatives.

  • Specifically, the Advisor will:

    Initial 15 days:
    Within 30 days:

  • Conduct an intensive investigation into the external reputation, previous media and industry coverage, social media presence and review sites.
  • Develop a baseline knowledge of the student journey and its major milestones in
    order to best determine points of differentiation.
  • Determine needs for, review and assess any data and it’s success in the education marketplace. Should include interviews with current students and alumni.
  • Review competitive landscape for comparison, points of differentiation and opportunities.
  • Review FY16 and planned FY 17 PR/Content Strategy and Calendar to provide feedback, gaps with solutions and missing areas for focus
  • Identify metrics and benchmarks for FY17 PR Strategies
  • Develop brand ambassador campaign framework
  • Determine scope of brand research needed
  • Provide specific findings, research, data , and recommendations via a master plan that includes activities, timelines, targeted data­driven outcomes, and
    estimate of resource needs delivered within initial 75 days.
  • Provide list of highly successful PR firms to interview for partnership.

  • Within 60 days:
  • Along with SVP of Marketing, interview PR firms and select top choice for final
  • Assist in execution of contract
  • Develop agency expectations, timelines, and KPIs for delivery.
  • Work with internal marketing team to prepare for deliverables.
  • Begin agency execution plan and be main point of contact for PR agency.
  • Provide regular updates to Leadership members as presented within

  • Within the first 90 days:
  • Spearhead and direct all initiatives for change to enhance the marketability and
  • Implementation of the full master plan, on time and with metrics/reporting for
  • Ensure transparency of messaging among Senior Staff and other key

  • Months 4­6:
  • Focus on monitoring and amending messaging and media plan as needed for
  • Ensure that processes and procedures are sustainable and can be continually decision by senior staff. the master plan.
