PR and Social Media Specialist for research department in technology company.

This role is part of a small team, reporting to the Business Manager and working closely with the Events and Communications Manager.

This person will be expected to work directly with the researchers, engineers and business staff in the lab, supporting their projects, programmes and initiatives. It also involves strong interaction with the teams in other research locations and across offices worldwide.


Public Relations
• Develop and drive PR initiatives that align with the company’s communications objectives
• Foster and grow relationships with media and influencers
• Ensure that PR activities achieve measureable targets
• Foster and grow relationships with internal stakeholders and agencies
• Provide PR counsel and training for staff in the lab
• Main point of contact for media enquiries and relevant outreach
• Production of quarterly coverage report

Social Media:
• Devise, deliver and grow a regular pipeline of social media activity via platforms
• Respond to social media enquiries
• Counsel staff around best practices and be aware of the entire social media presence
• Report on metrics

Experience and Qualifications
• Extensive experience working in a PR and social media role
• Proven ability and experience of implementing elements of a strategic communications plan
• Previous experience of working within an international organisation would be useful
• Previous experience of working in a technical environment would be desirable
• A degree in marketing or communications, or equivalent Chartered Institute qualifications

Key Skills
• Great working knowledge of social media platforms
• Fantastic communication skills
• Excellent organisational and time management skills
• Strong IT skills and a good working knowledge of Office
• Creative - an eye for design/layout and a flair for copy
• Excellent written English skills and attention to detail (must be a fluent English speaker)
• The ability to at times distil deeply technical information down to a comprehensible message for a more general audience
