PHP Developer

We are looking for a talented mid/senior PHP developer to work alongside our Head of Tech. You'll be joining a fast-growing, Cambridge-based e-commerce start-up. The start-date is as soon as possible and we are offering a negotiable, competitive salary.

About the role
You'll be one of two developers, so you'll play a massively important role in shaping the future of our development team and business! Our vision is to keep the development team small, but brilliant - we're looking for excellent coders, not managers! We want you to take responsibility and pride in your work. We're busy people - so your every move won't be micro-managed.

What you'll be working on:
Our existing systems are written on the LAMP stack using ZF1, but we use other technologies sometimes too.

It's likely that any new projects will be built with ZF2 or Symfony 2 - so, any experience using these frameworks would be a bonus!

As a start-up things move quickly and there's always something to get stuck into. Recent projects include:

Building a bespoke bidding platform to make the most of Google’s new Shopping Campaigns product
Developing a user-centric price comparison process for our broadband comparison website including integration with a third party ESP
An algorithm to split test page layouts and automatically optimise how a site displays in order to maximise revenue
Modifying our office space marketplace website to integrate with new partner data feeds and enquiry submission APIs
Skills and requirements

Essential
Strong understanding of object-oriented PHP.
Solid experience in a structured, team-based environment and understanding of good software engineering practices.
Care about code quality and work effectively to get things done as simply and elegantly as possible.
Generalising specialist and know PHP/MySQL like the back of your hand.
Experience using Zend frameworks.
Excellent problem-solver with an eye for detail and creative with your coding to get the best results.
Able to communicate effectively with all members of staff - both tech and non-tech.
Able to absorb new technical information quickly.
Able to competently plan, schedule and monitor own work.
Attitude to get things done to the very best of your ability.
