Museum Educator / Art History Exhibit
A leading art exhibition producer is looking for Museum Educators to lead workshops at their exhibition of over 200 works by an iconic Dutch artist. The 8 month exhibition will run from June 8th, 2018 to February 3rd, 2019 (7 days/week) at Brooklyn’s Industry City.
This is a freelance position
After receiving training and reference materials for the exhibition, the Museum Educator will run workshops geared to various age groups (especially K-12 students) and may be occasionally be asked to lead 75 minute gallery tours.
The educator will be paid per hour, and will be notified of the schedule on a weekly basis.
The Museum Educator may be asked to lead multiple workshops and/or tours in a day.
Participate in training (paid)
Study catalogue and background material related to each workshop
Prepare appropriately for different age groups
Present approx. 75 min gallery tours
Control the group and be aware of safety for the art objects all the time
Help to maintain gallery and classroom cleanliness
Ability to speak confidently and clearly before groups
Articulate, professional, reliable, pleasant
Flexibility to tailor workshops and tours according to the requirements of different audiences and age groups (especially K-12 students)
Willing and eager to learn about client and his work
Background on Fine Arts and Art History is desired
Teaching and Docent experience is helpful
Tours & workshops will be in English
Strong time management skills
Must pass a criminal background check
Must be available starting June 1st
The physical demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the responsibilities of this position.
While performing the task, duties and responsibilities of this position, the employee is required to talk, hear, sit, stand and walk up to several miles each day
This position will involve the ability to use hands, reach with hands and arms, stand, kneel and balance. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close and distance vision, color, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus
The employee must be able to frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
Hours: This position is part-time on an as-needed basis. The number of workshops and tours assigned to a Museum Educator is dependent on the number of bookings. Generally, workshops and tours are held throughout the day from 10 am to 7 pm with extended evening hours on Thursdays and Saturdays. Evening bookings and weekend bookings may also be held. Museum Educators will be required to attend a day training session before the opening.
